I think you confused long term disability insurance with long term care insurance. The latter is for us geezers who need nursing care at home or in facility. If your employer offers that never leave. I suspect it doesn’t.

Yep, that's long-term disability insurance I have through my employment. I don't have long-term care insurance and so far have not felt the need for buying one. Not yet anyway.

Insurance is to indemnify loss and, as such, one should consider personal and legal needs vs ability to cover such loss. You are betting against yourself (the fates are against me and I will certainly need X amount) while the insurance company covers that bet by calculating the risks + whatever profit it deems tenable. I believe one should always consider competitive bids, if for no other reason than provide the smug confidence that you've got good policies.

Health, disability, long-term care, and life insurance are different animals but still worthy of scrutiny. ie: are you still working or retired, is there a history of longevity or illness in your family, do you have sufficient assets to provide for the family in your absence.

Sorry for the rant... being a thrifty Scot it pains me to see people not put enough effort into doing basic fiduciary planning (sigh).

I've heard a lot of complaints especially if you have to stop for a yellow/red light, it dings you for harsh braking.
