    Dear Friends:

    This is to update you on the status of the stickers that will allow qualifying hybrid vehicles to use California's HOV (carpool) lanes. The DMV expects to have issued all 75,000 stickers authorized by my bill, AB 2628, very shortly. However, new legislation passed this year authorized issuance of another 10,000 stickers.


    The roughly 2,000 applications currently pending will continue to be processed, along with new applications. Stickers beyond the 75,000 initially authorized cannot be sent until the new legislation becomes effective, which is January 1, 2007. The new legislation also extends this program through the year 2011.

    That's good to know. It's not what I wanted to hear, but at least we have an answer from a credible source, now.

    Sounds like Fran Pavley knows what he is talking about.

    That will force some of us to wait until Jan 1, 2007 before our stickers will be shipped. Wonder if CalTrans will keep on accepting applications & act on them next year? Makes sense -

    I have POV #72978!

    Assemblymember Fran Pavley (female) was the sponsor of the original HOV lane bill for California- you have her to thank for all of us being able to go in the carpool lane with one person. The newest bill- AB 2600 - just passed on Sept. 29th-
    only extends it until 2011 and adds 10,000 more stickers, but the bill does not go into effect until Jan 1, 2007- hence the 10,000 stickers will not get issued until then.

    Big question- how is the DMV going to handle the applications until then?
