clock and gps

    I'm wondering whether the clock is connect to the GPS on Prius. On our Highlander Hybrid with GPS, there's only one "clock" button beside the clock. When you push it, you can choose the time zone and DST on the MFD. and the actual precise UTC time is from the GPS. but on our 2007 Prius with GPS, there are two button near the clock, one for hour and one for minute, just like a regular car without GPS. Why did Toyota do that on Prius?

    The Highlander sets the clock from the GPS? That's pretty slick. I'm sure it's probably a cost thing based on how many of each model have the nav system, and they decided to save a few nickels on the Prius by not having that feature. Speaking of which, does anyone know how popular the nav system is? It seems like I see more Prius's with than without, but my sample may be biased.

    "Popular" is an odd word here (for me at least). In my case I wanted to get one without a built-in NAV (and get a portable model), but out of the 6 models available in 2005, only #1, #3 and #6 (with the NAV) was available in Southern California. I attempted to get one in Nevada, but that fell through, so I "made do" with a #6. :)

    As it adds to the cost, it's more popular with the dealer, so I suppose they try to sell that more than without. I'm happy with it, but it's probably due to the fact that this is my first NAV system, so I have nothing to compare it with.

    You can get to a screen that shows what satellites you're receiving and there's the GMT in the lower right corner.

    "popular" is perhaps a poor word choice. I was wanting our Prius more as a commuter car, so I wanted to forego the nav system etc., in favor of a lower cost, and at the time, it seemed like they had lots of them that were fully loaded up, so I had to wait a bit to get one without like yourself. But it seems like since then, other Prius owners I meet mostly seem to have nav, so I was wondering what's the percentage of Prius's that have it?

    Interesting. When we tried to get our Prius, it seemed we could have got it a lot sooner if we hadn't wanted the GPS. A lot of dealers called with a lower package.

    How to get to the screen? On our Highlander, it is in the hidden screen. But how about the 2007 Prius?

    And I know the UTC (GMT) is there--it's part of the GPS signal and you need that to decode the coordinates. But why didn't Toyota connects the displayed clock to the GPS? It really costs nothing in my opinion.

    1. Press INFO
    2. Press DISPLAY
    3. Touch the upper left corner of the INFO area not covered by the DISPLAY screen (the middle 1/3)
    4. Touch the lower left screen in the same area.
    5. Repeat steps 3 & 4 two more times (for a total of 6 presses).
    6. Press MENU on MFD.
    7. Press NAVIGATION
    That shows you the screen. Instead of doing steps 1-5, you can also get there by holding the INFO button and turning the lights on and off 3 times. To get back to the regular screen, hold the INFO button for a few seconds (or power off).
