It doesn't matter. Biden has made it clear that he's not going to mandate vaccines, nor even masks. While he's encouraging it (and making it a requirement for government employees), he's leaving it to the states/local governments.

The issue of whether the Federal Government can mandate it is put off till the next President/crisis situation.

Privilege, are you simply overcome by how well ETC summed up the situation as well as your ineptitude, or just trying to make up a senseless retort?

I've read through this thread and the amount of false information, often pulled from op-ed pages, is amazing. I can see how less educated people can be persuaded to adopt a "no vax" stance.

It occurred to me last night ( while watching the news ) that many of the people who were not vaccinated used the phrase "experimental vaccine" as a reason to avoid it. Then they quote freedoms as a reason to abstain. Then they say that covid is not dangerous. It's almost like they all watched the same podcast.

I know a couple dozen people who have contracted Covid, some were relatives. Every one of them were not vaccinated and not following the rules for isolation, masks, etc. Of that few dozen, none have died, but a few have long term problems. Of those I know who were vaccinated, not one has contracted the disease.

The math seems real simple to me. Zero infections VS whole families stricken.

    Dan

P.S. There appears to have been one massive breakthrough experience in Massachusetts where a community had a large outbreak following the 4th of July. The CDC says that almost 74% of the infected people were vaccinated. That is quite different than the experience in the rest of the country where nearly 100% of the infected are not vaccinated. It suggests that something was done wrong in the supply chain for that county. Bad refrigeration? Diluted serum? Expired vials used? It's hard to say. But it's clear that it is an aberration.

The Delta variant is highly contagious and can create breakthrough cases, though vaccinated people are much, much less likely to get sick enough to get hospitalized (or even have any symptoms).

It is a math problem: In a highly vaccinated state or country, most of the Covid cases will be breakthrough cases with vaccinated people, because those are the only people available to be exposed to the virus.

In a state or country without a high level of vaccination, most of the cases will be unvaccinated people, because they are much more likely to get it.

There will be a lot more people getting sick, hospitalized, or dying in the latter case.

Just look at statistics of Massachusetts vs Florida to see an example of each case.

As shown in the charts of that article, UK just had a large spike, and hospitalizations are delayed from Covid cases, so it makes sense that hospitalizations are up, and should be going back down soon. Because of high vaccination rates, the hospitalization spike is half of the previous wave, even though the number of cases is almost double.

some perspective on the pronvincetown cluster:

this was a well planned july fourth 'summer of vax freedom' event. progressive people from all over the country descended on cae cod to join the celebration, a very high percentage vaccinated.

parties were held, crowded nightclubs and bars, etc. the rainy weekend drove even more people inside.

once the cluster was realized, infected citizens worked closely with health officials and tracers to identify as many contacts as possible.
while many of the positive were ill with very unpleasant flu like symtoms, only 7 were hospitalized.

the only failure here, according to some individuals, was the cdc's guidance for vaccinated individuals. we're still not in a place of unbound freedom. caution is still the order of the day for all.

My fully vaccinated aunt had a breakthrough case at age 99.8. Thankfully she had a mild case, nearly asymptomatic, just a runny nose. She was over it in time to have a limited-size in-person 100 birthday party.
I think you misread. None of the available vaccines tested out at 100% effective (in their limited sample sizes) at preventing all forms of the disease running around then (not the Delta variant), only at preventing serious cases that led to hospitalizations and deaths. Their effectiveness at preventing milder and asymptomatic cases was mid-90s-% for two of the vaccines approved in this country, only mid-70s for the third.

The Delta variant is worse than what those vaccine trials faced, and the real-world vaccinated population includes a lot more people with compromised immune systems, reducing the effectiveness of the vaccines. So it should be no surprise that current real-world results are not as good as during the original vaccine trials.

The report on that Massachusetts outbreak also said:
"The study also found that among people with breakthrough cases (that is, cases in which fully vaccinated people get sick), no one died and only four (1.2 percent) were hospitalized, with the most common symptoms being "cough, headache, sore throat, myalgia, and fever.""

See also that recent data from my state, which also doesn't fit your "nearly 100% of the infected are not vaccinated" impression. In parts of my state, 4% to 10% of hospitalizations and 6% of deaths are among the fully vaccinated. The vaccine is a major step forward, but it isn't perfect:

I guess you have missed various past items, and haven't tried to graph your own in your own desired form.
Really? People here were cutting back sharply before government issued region-wide mandates, and many people cut back much more than government ever required. So at least for my state, blaming all the economic slowdown on "government" is a crock.

COVID-19 can be viewed as just another human harmer, only different for being new and newly rapidly calling (vaccines for) response. If it is much different from previous well-known harmers, please describe differences in detail. Teach us.

If it is not much different from previous well-known human harmers, but if its vaccine defenses are considered different from other similar prior human defenses, I must ask why that might be.

If it is much different from previous well-known human harmers, I must ask how that was allowed global emission.

My confidence that I've grasped where you're going in a comment is nearly always higher than it is this time.

nice effort with the condescending tone, I'll acknowledge the effort given.

later in your post script there was an interesting figure of around 74%. if you have a link to that (I probably missed it from earlier posts?) I would like to read it.

I've read the #4315 info from other sources. Reuters is not on the happy list.

not sure which well known human harmers you are relating it to, but in my lifetime, there has been nothing like this.
perhaps vaccines have mostly eliminated them, idk. but they probably weren't invented in 6 months.
