Senior use: can the car ever roll away other than Neutral?

    I'm not positive that the ECU would have to respond to the power-off button by turning the 12 V power off first and then shifting to Park (depending on the battery to power the actuator). I think if I had written the software, it would shift to Park, confirm that it happened, and then turn the power off, or display a "hey, apply the parking brake" warning.

    All happens so quick that I'm not sure I could really tell, but capturing a few chosen circuits on a scope would probably answer the question.

    Not sure what that video was showing. I guess as soon as it stops spinning the natural position is Park. (My guess of the explanation given)...

    moto g(7) power ?

    It spins one direction to insert the parking pawl, the other direction to withdraw it. The Transmission Control ECU learns how many pulses in each direction it can move, from fully parked to fully unparked, and just does that.

    Things can get confusing in a Prius because it's so darn quiet and you can't tell if the power is on or off most of the times. I learned the hard way that when you open the door and you hear beeping, then that is a big red flag. I used to be desensitized to the warning sounds but now I treat any kind of beeping as something very important.

    We're getting a ton of double and triple posts right now. Seems to have something to do with the flakey nature of the forum software at the moment. The whole site keeps going off line, too.

    Depends on the vehicle. Some will switch to P automatically if: the vehicle is in ready mode and the drivers door is opened with the seat belt unattached and no brake pedal is applied.

    I don't have a problem remembering when I'm in reverse, although I did use the Dr. Prius software to reduce to just one beep. Maybe because I'm always in high alert when in reverse (parallel parking, expecting a bicyclist to appear - my street is apparently an alternate official bike route.) Although I don't always use the parking brake, I do a mental check to decide if I need to use it -- am I on a slope (Seattle), am I on a forest service road.

    I have, however, forgotten to turn the car off before and had it beep at me. It's just so quiet. I always catch it before I walk away, since I obsessively circle my car, checking for any attractive items -- again, Seattle. Wish me luck, so far the [censored] thieves haven't smashed my windows (perimeter check), stolen my car (have a Club), or stolen my cat (have a cat plate).
