Auto button knocked inside dash...

    When entering the car my knee hit the auto button, located to the lower left of the steering wheel, in the most perfect way that it dislodged the button from the face plate and pushed it inside. The button seems to snap into the faceplate so I believe it's an easy fix of removing that dash portion and putting the button back in place. Can anyone provide instructions on how to safely remove that dash piece on a 2017 prius iv?

      (Step 6 is “Remove Instrument Cluster Finish Panel Garnish Assembly.”)
    • Vehicle Exterior: Lighting (Ext): Automatic High Beam Main Switch: Removal
    In brief, grasp the top and bottom of the trim panel that surrounds the two groups of buttons—the instrument cluster finish panel garnish assembly, in Toyota’s terms—and pull it straight towards the rear of the car, disengaging four clips and a claw, and then disconnect the two electrical connectors. No tools should be required for this step; the garnish assembly just unsnaps. Next, use a small screwdriver to disengage the claws at both sides of the back of the No. 2 combination switch assembly that secure it to the garnish assembly.

    It was as you said, no tools needed. Pulling with my hands removed the trim and then I simply snapped the auto button panel in. Was worried I'd have to do dismantling to get to that trim piece.

    Almost identical thing happened to me yesterday. I found this posting after a quick search!!
    I followed the same procedure by pulling the trim out with my hands (firmly pull but limit your pulling-out distance to no more than 4 inches to avoid damaging the the associated wires). Snapping the button panel back and pushing the trim back is a very easy task.

    5 minute job when you know what to do :)

    Just wanted to thank you for this post. I bought a used prius with the buttons pushed in. Toyota dealership wanted to charge me $200 to "fix" this is o_O Following your instructions, I fixed it in 30 seconds.

    I'm a new member and want to thank you profusely for this post! I had the same problem: my auto high beam button got knocked into the dash. WIth the info here, it was *trivail* to fix. Literally maybe as much as 2 minutes from start to finish and I was done. Well done!
