P3000 and P3030 Advice wanted

    I finally found a (Honda) mechanic who was able to determine that my 2001 has these codes. We also saw that the "block voltage" of number 18 was 0 and number 17 was 20 (with all the rest being around 16). Also ECU code 47050B. So, this points to a cell in the battery being faulty? The car drives perfectly- is it safe to drive for a while like this? Would you replace the entire battery? Take it to a dealer (which is 60 miles away)? Other suggestions? Does anyone know of a good Prius mechanic anywhere in upstate NY? I really do not want to take the battery out and fool around with individual cells, and then have more fail. The car has 77,000 miles on it. Thanks!

    I would say it's more likely you have a wire harness problem in the battery or the ecu has corroded pins. Or a combination of the two.

    One is showing 0 because either the sensor wire is broken or the ecu pin is corroded.
    The next one defaults to 20v because the previous one is 0.

    Such is the life of a gen 1

    Those wire harnesses are available new from Toyota for about $100 I think.

    I agree with TMR, any of those actions would be misplaced, because the codes you have don't indicate that kind of failure at all.

    There's a simple broken skinny wire in there, or at worst a problem that extends to the little ECU the skinny wires plug into, and it's fixed by replacing the skinny wire harness, the little ECU, or in the most unlucky case both.

    Continuing to drive probably won't be a problem right away, but fixing it will make both you and the car happier.

    I *think* this is just the part number or maybe the software revision of the battery ECU - the computer inside the high-voltage battery that is in charge of the battery. My '01 reports 47030 there, even when no other trouble codes are set.
