It seems it's just a matter of unscrewing the old one and popping in the new one. Is that it? Is there any kind of procedure I have to follow or pump the brakes or let the engine run for a while?

In general you can unbolt, remove and reinstall. There are ways to avoid losing power during this time but that really is not worth the time and expense on a Prius. You may have to try twice to start it the first time and will have to change the channel back to your favorite station. Which will still be preset.

It can be the easiest thing ever but if you make a stupid mistake and reverse the battery terminals, days of regret and some expense will follow as you change inaccessible fuses and pray for forgiveness. Since you don't seem to be the humble type and have never done this before, I would ask the seller to install it. After you made access easy.

Strange thing this English. In another thread gromittoo used “embrace” probably mistakenly. Here, I used “He”.

I was trying to clarify your “8 years?!” to someone who thought 8 years was short. “8 years?!” by itself would have been confusing to someone who just said 8 years was too short a lifespan. I should have used @Grit instead of “he”.

The 12v battery in our 2010 died about 6 months ago.
We bought the car new in '10 and the battery lasted 11 years.
My daughter was driving it and stopped for gas. It wouldn't start after she finished gassing up.
Lucky for her she has Geico and they towed it for free to the local Toyota dealer who replaced it for about $300.
