I've searched the threads on here and seems like most people have had good luck charging their iPhone X in the Prius Prime on the wireless QI charging plate. I have the iPhone 12 Pro Max and my phone says charging for about 5 seconds then the light turns orange and it stops charging. I have this clear and thin iPhone case:

    on Amazon;

It didnt work with my Apple leather case either. Is there a trick as to where to place it? I've been placing it in the middle of the charging pad but haven't had any luck. If you have had good luck, please do let me know which case you have as I would love to have this feature work!

    Thanks so much :)

I'll let this one slide since the Gen 4 and Prime have the same charger and you might get more tips from Gen 4 owners as well as Prime owners.

Thank you, I couldn’t figure out how to delete the post or how to change the title since I put iPhone X in the title and I meant to put iPhone 12 pro max. I also realized this wasn’t the prime forum. My bad.

In either the Prime or the regular Gen 4, the Qi charger is junk. Too small, too weak. Too able to let the phone slide out under the driver's feet. And too hard to see Google Maps.

I put a rubber liner over the charger so I can have a little bottle of hand sanitizer, an ink pen, and a couple other things I might want quick access to. The phone is on an adjustable mount on the dash where I can see it and keep it plugged in for map usage when needed.

FWIW, I’ve had no issues with my old school iPhone 8+ charging on our 2020 Prius or on a 2018 Prime that I rented a while ago. I have a thin case on the phone.

When I place the phone on the pad, it starts charging immediately and the light on the pad goes from green to orange. When the phone is fully charged the pad light blinks orange.

I’m wondering if the issue is related to the MagSafe magnets on your phone?

My wife and I each have the iPhone 8S and neither will change on my Qi pad in my 2017 "Touring".
    Neither will my daughter's X.
Like the OP, they will all charge for about 5 seconds then the charge LED next to the Qi pad will start blinking and the phone indicates it's not charging anymore.
I've tried all of them in or out of their cases and tried different areas of the pad.
They all charge wirelessly on my desktop Qi charger stand that charges the phone, watch and Airpods at the same time without having to remove them from their cases.
No one seems to have a fix.

I’ve noticed that my 8+ will only charge to about 95% on our 2020 XLE AWD-e. And if it’s hot outside, may not charge at all.

dumb question, have you tried restarting your phone? If the car is still in warranty, I would take it to the dealer, and see if your phone charges on a car on the lot (preferably same model year). If so, this would suggest that the Qi charger in your car is broken.

I would like to know also since I also own 12 pro max. But I’ve pretty much have given up on it. The 12 pro max is a big phone and can’t lay precisely where the peak spot of the coils need to meet. Only smaller phones can maybe do it.

yes! it would be nice if it would work also even though it is a slower charge I have the iPhone 12 pro max as well and it will only charge for a few minutes until you hot a substantial bump then it will charge until the next bump lol rather irritating

My XS Max with leather Apple case fits and charges just fine. Charging is slow, but doesn't drop out.

The reason the OP is having issues is the safety feature of the Qi charger fitted to the vehicle. There is a sensor which detects whether there is a reverse induction / temperature increase created by metal (or keys) left on the pad.
The iPhone 12 and 13 series have magnets built into the phone to accommodate the MagSafe charging system and will always trip this sensor.
Models predating the 12 will not trip this sensor and will charge correctly.
I got round this by not using the pad anymore and mounting a MagSafe charger to the pad with double sided Velcro and put a black silicon cover on it (Amazon sell these) to cover the silver pad without preventing the MagSafe system working.

Yes and no, correct on safety, but Q charger in Prius is a piece of junk, doesn’t charge any model year.

well, demonstrably wrong. My Prius, as well as a rental Prius, has no issues charging an 8 Plus and an IPhone SE.

Was the 8 Plus in thick, protective case? My 8 Plus was in a thick Speck Case and would not lay flat in the charger. I haven't tried it yet with my 13 Pro, but suspect it would be better if I was OK with the phone laying on a slippery surface where it could easily slide off under my feet where the screen would be even harder to see.

I use a relatively thin case — this one.

I’ve never had an issue with the phone sliding off.

My iPhone 11 in a thin silicone case charges just fine. Not fast, but steady. The grip of the case keeps it in place pretty well.
