Lifted Wheel & Tire Recommendations

    Having installed the Offroad kit on my '09 there is now a lot of room in the wheel wells. I am looking for the best wheel and tire size to add additional height/clearance without sacrificing too many MPGs. I understand going to a larger tire will change the speedo and cost some MPGs, but I do not know tires and tire ratios well enough to come up with the best combination myself. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Tire Size Comparison

    When choosing a tire for my Prius I used this website often. Just input the stock tire size and any other new tire size to see the differences in the sizes. Comparing the differences in overall diameter and dividing that by 2 (finding the radius) will give you the added ground clearance from the tire.

    I believe PriusOffroad doesn't recommend anything larger than a 205/75 R15 for their kit. Anything larger will rub the wheel wells. Also anything that size will mostly likely decrease your fuel economy significantly.

    I currently have a set of General Grabber AT/X 215/75 R15's on my '08. These have a 27.7" overall diameter. I had to cut away some of the fender to make them fit and I get more than 10MPG's fewer than before. (NOT recommended for your situation)

    Something in the 205/65 R15 range might serve you well. Those have a 26.5" overall diameter, 1" more than stock which results in 0.5" added ground clearance. MPG shouldn't be affected too much but you will still notice a drop.

    Thanks! You are running some big tires! I likewise need some off-road capability which is why I did the kit.

    Prius OR says max size is 215/70R15 or 215/65R16. But they wouldn't suggest anything specific even after purchase which is a huge bummer.

    You're right! My bad, I was going off memory.

    I assume the not recommending anything specific is due to liability issues. If you go on their instagram page they have pictures of customers cars and they usually list what tire they're running.

    Tirerack.com is a good reference as well, just enter the tire size you want and it'll list all the options.

    I'm sure it's liability concerns. I do follow their social media but they do not consistently show tire sizes. Thank you again!

    I went with the Yokohama Geolandar AT G015. It’s a 215/70R15. Prius Offroad doesn’t exactly recommend tires but they do list quite a few options they and their customers have been happy with. Please consider updating this thread with what you purchased — maybe it’ll help the next person.

    I’m thinking about using those same tires. What was your experience. Would you recommend them? I’m also getting the 1.5” spacer from Prius Off-road.

    I am also curious about average city/hwy MPG with the larger tires. When you say 10 MPG loss is that from 50 MPG and you are still in the 40 range? I could live with 40ish, I really have to "hyper-mile" drive to get 50 MPG as it is and that's mostly on the highway.

    Reviving an old thread. I’m curious on a wheel tire setup.

    17x7.5 +40 wheel
    225/55/17 wildpeak trail tire

    Will these fit on a gen 3 without a lift?
