2006 Prius almost out of warranty (two weeks left)

Man, you must be driving that thing into the ground to be through the standard warranty so quickly (3 yrs, 36k miles).

I don't think any issues have come up yet to "be aware of" or have the dealer look at, but then again, most '04 owners are right around their warranty expiration - very few have put on too many more miles out of the warranty!

Given the amount you seem to drive, you may want to think about the extended warranty - its always paid off for me in the past!

 

since this problem was documented and not satisfactorily fixed during warranty, you should be able to push them into fixing it after warranty if it continues.

besides, it's not your fault they couldn't figure it out.

will ask hubby about the hid stuff, seems strange.

as far as the rest of it... if there aren't any problems right now they won't replace anything anyway. just have em take a good look over the car top to bottom. if there's *anything* wrong they want to find it anyway

 

Log into techinfo.toyota.com. (Pay the $10). Read through all of the TSB's released and see if you have any of the issues, then report them to the dealer next week.

k. for the hid lights, they need to replace a bulb or a computer. if they can't witness it, they need to park it in the shop with the headlights on till the one goes out.

now. was your car part of the recent steering shaft recall? if it was done, find out if they did an alignment with it. if not, go back and get your free alignment.

no tsb's really stick out, nothing that you could really fake to have the fix done before the warranty expires. just go over the car thoroughly and find any little broken thing. is the center console cover coming apart? paint wearing on glovebox doors? stuff like that.

 

it's not so much a matter of taking your word, but if they can't make it happen they can't figure out what's going on when it happens. in this case it's not THAT complex but in principle if they can't replicate it they can't fix it.

don't worry about the steering, was mainly pointing out that you could get a free alignment under that particular circumstance.

well, yeah your car will probably be down to a couple bars on the battery since they'll just leave it on till the problem happens. otherwise, by leaving the car off and the lights on it could run down your 12v battery and you don't want that.

Many of the members do their bit to add to the Prius history on PC. With the mileage you're tacking on each year, your experience will be extremely valuable as well.

I enjoy the car but the wealth of information and discussion on a particular car can't be matched as what I find on PC.

wow. 36 k in a year!! man think of the money saved on gas. that is awesome.

as far as the light thing. you have documentation and i agree with galaxee. intermittent problems are the toughest to catch. my advice.

when it goes out, if you can, take it to the nearest dealer and not power cycle the lights. the ballast or whatever that maintains charge is leaking that is if it works like a fluorescent. then again, i have no idea how they work. so maybe not. but seems strange that a power cycle rectifies the problem.

cbs4, I had problem with my 94 LS400, 3 Technicians can not figure it out. I suggest the Tech to drive my car for a week (they give me a loaner car). Luckily, within a day of driving from Technican home to work (25 Miles). Tech accepted there was problem that computer can not figure out. Dealer was trying shotgun to replace a lot of parts for $1050.00 (without gurantee it will fix the problem). I bought my car home and started searching for the problem one of the post in the Clublexus solve my problem after replace all new spark plugs (engine is missing between cold and hot).

Ask your dealer to have one of the Tech drive your car and get the loaner.

It's a hybrid, remember? :_> Leaving the car ON all day does nothing to the batteries, it only burns a couple of gallons of gasoline (assuming that the climate control is shut OFF; otherwise heating and/or cooling will cause more gas to be burned). This is a tiny price to pay to diagnose an annoying and dangerous problem. If they won't or can't do that, take it to another dealer.
