How old is your 12v battery? have you tested it recently?

Focus on load testing that battery.....

More than likely 8 years is a very good run for it.

A low or almost gone 12v battery will throw codes and give all kinds of issues and seem you have that issue

There are a lot of communication errors listed there. If those are consistently reported, that's where I would start looking.

But first, this bit of the history: "Showed overheating, engine check light and hybrid malfunction signal on the dash. Car stalled on the road."

It can be a very good idea to stop right away when an overheat warning is shown, even if only so you can find out what is overheating. In a hybrid, there's more than one possibility.

What I suspect happened is the power electronics overheated (sometimes this is because of a pump that wears out), and later shut down to protect themselves, and then nothing was charging the 12 volt battery in the back. Then you just kept driving the car on what charge there was in the 12 volt battery, until it finally pooped out (much like a spring break trip I took once). If that's what happened, the communication error codes were the last words of all the car's computers as they dropped offline.
