Will there be an all-electric Prius?

I would highly doubt it. Toyota is actively lobbying against EV's and they are going to continue to push their sunk investments into the hybrid tech which is permeating the whole lineup. Prius sales are down as they are being cannibalized by the other hybrids that have a more appealing package (corolla, rav4, camry)

Toyota needs to get with the program and quick or they will be a quick shrinking player in cars within the next decade.

 

not that i have read. i also would like one, but depending on your time frame, you may have to look elsewhere.
the problem with prius is that it is not set up for full ev, so toyota will likely have to copletely revamp it.
and these days, cuv's are the big sellers, so it probably won't be that prius like.
even the competition isn't making anything as big as prius for a reasonable price that i have seen.

Likely, any BEV from Toyota will be sold solely in CARB states.
That is, IF they sell it in the USA at all.
If you have 5-10 years before your next car purchase, there may be a chance.
Less time, I would look elsewhere.

Had to chime in on this one. As a former Volt owner (and someone who came close to being one again), to me, the all-electric concept does not appeal as yet to those who want to scoot around town and to work most days on electrons, then be able to get in the car and drive across the country (or just up to Grandma's in the next state). Yes, you can drive long distances in SOME electrics, as long as you know just where to charge and are willing to wait a while. If Prius had a hatchback version that would travel (at least) 50 miles on battery power, had a fuel efficient engine capable getting 45-50 MPG on dino-fuel, a roomy 5-passenger cabin with a flat load floor with the seats folded, it would satisfy the needs of many drivers. If it was also affordable, that would push it into first place for a lot of folks who only want/need 1 vehicle for the majority of their daily duties. AND...it it looked nice without all the sculpted, overdone body lines, man that would be great! A vehicle that could meet all those parameters ... like a marriage between the 2017-2019 Volt and my 2015 Prius... I might have to think seriously about upgrading. Till then, my smooth looking, great running Prius is just dandy, thanks!
