I have a 2007 with original HV battery, 188k, based in Midwest and it’s been meticulously maintained at Toyota for routine service and occasionally an oil change elsewhere. Change the 12v battery every four years. I routinely get 52-60 mpg in suburban driving. I don’t over-inflate tires or do anything else unusual. Although I have a lot of hybrid driving experience and try to not waste fuel, I am not a crazy hyper-miler. Pretty amazing car in my experience.

I've put about 1600 miles on the '09 gen 2 & first tank (or so) as reported by the car (I realize that is likely imprecise), 48 mpg which just blew me away considering the F-250 gets about 12 mpg. After second fill-up it was 52.3, then 53.2. Last one was only 51.2 but I hauled people & pails of drywall mud, & used the AC a bit. It has 146K on it. the 51.2 fill-up, I noticed it only took a bit over 9 gallons with 475 miles traveled so range must be about 600 miles. I get about 270 miles on the F-250's 25 gallon tank... Prius was burning a bit of oil, but that seems considerably reduced since I stopped using "B" gear on downhills. At least that's the only factor I can think of, that might've led to better oil retention. Thus far it seems I've got a good Gen 2. To be fair, the rocker panel is a bit dented on one side, & wheels are in rough shape

Quite likely. Several others have made the same observation.

That's from oil control ring buildup.

I'd add some engine flush as per instructions and change oil every 3,000-5,000 miles, depending on conditions.

Just came back from 2100 mile road trip(California coast and Oregon). 50mpg(miles divided by actaul gas consumption)! Not too bad for 2007 with 140k! It really helped since gas price in CA is crazy high! lol

Just got home from my Summer Vacation. 15 states, 7300 miles, and more mountain passes than I could count. Illinois to California and back through Oregon and Washington. Not the best time to travel out there with record breaking heatwave but the 2005 with 242k miles did just fine. 46.8 MPG overall, did about 60 MPG in Yellowstone National Park, a lot worse driving through all those mountain passes. New Prius Batteries battery installed January of 2019 performed well, but those mountain passes are rough on it. Dropped to 2 bars and occasionally 1 bar on the climb but was able to charge back up going down the other side. Overall a great trip but next time I will pray for some milder temperatures. 116 degrees in Oregon was a bit much.

2005 with 133K. I have owned car for 1.5 years. Summer MPG 50 - 51.5 MPG consistently. Winter MPG 45-47 MPG. Depends on exactly how cold it is.

I drive like an old man. My last car was a 2016 Corolla with the CVT transmission. In summer, no A/C, I could get over 40 MPG!

maybe because you are an old man? Step one is admitting the problem.

I own two 2005 Prius cars, one with 118,000 miles and one with 178,000 miles. I drive an average of 340-400 miles per week, city, freeway, flatland, uphill and downhill. Each car averages in the low 50's, 51-54 mpg, week-in and week-out. I've been driving hybrid vehicles for over 14 years and have put many thousands of miles on them during that time. I don't hypermile, but have a gentle foot on the accelerator. My brother, who drove more aggressively in mostly city driving (usually heavy on the throttle and brakes) only got into the high 30's to mid 40's with the same vehicles that I presently drive. Technique can make a BIG DIFFERENCE!

Technique, e.g., not lead footing it at stops, and use of cruise control are in my experience two big factors in increasing mpg.

I have a 2008 Prius Touring that just crossed 150k miles with original everything and I was previously getting 32-35 mpg and maybe 36 if I was really lucky. I took some advice from posts on the forums and cleaned the throttle body and MAF and instantly saw gains to 42mpg average in the city. Highway driving has always been weird for me because I have a roof rack as pictured in my profile picture. I'm sure that's a big factor in gas mileage. I generally get about 40-42 mpg in the city and something like 36mpg on the highway.

The Hybrid Battery honestly seems fine and acceleration is nice and smooth. Just did a brake flush and the system still works great with minimum pad wear still on the originals. 12v battery has a good reading, I'll consider replacing spark plugs again as it's time, another PCV valve and I've got time to figure out where the oil consumption is coming from.

Since I acquired CHGYPYG back in 2014, overall MPG has been around 43. A couple of months ago I switched to premium Mobil gas, and the overall jumped to 48. :)

Filled up with E10 fuel in London at 5.00am and drove to work.
Disclosure, the engine was warm when I filled up - had to hunt for a petrol station that had fuel - about 2.5 miles.
16 miles later, I’m at the gates at work with that unbelievable mpg (imperial).
Yes, it dropped to about 69 mpg by the time I’d returned home through the London A406 traffic.

When did you last change the plugs? Premium gas vs regular should not make any difference unless the regular has high ethanol content and the premium does not.

Not uncommon to get in the high 70’s mpg in my experience especially if trip from refueling station is constant 45mph or so. Eventually reverts to mid 50’s tank average which is fine for a car with nearly 200k miles in it.

~ 106k (…if I remember correctly!). I think they may be due again soon! (199k just rolled over). Last time, I remember being surprised when the local Stealership suggested they replace the PCV valve at the same time as the plugs as it's a simple job to do when changing the plugs, and they would only charge me for the cost of the PCV ($11). :)

170,000 miles on my 2007 and still consistently over 45mpg in mixed driving. In good weather I'll see 50-52mpg highway if I keep it at 70mph.

Good idea to change PCV at that time and ask for the old one back to see what it looks like. Also when the plugs were changed I’d suggest sticking with OEM. I change my plugs every 110-120k whether they need it or not.

124.000km, 2007, European top spec. Recently I changed the ABS actuator. Here is a typical consumption a few moments before resetting at the gas station, filled up with 42.25 litres.

Gas mileage increased since I changed my 12V battery out about one month ago. My prior 12V battery was not properly holding a charge. Pleasant surprise was that my gas mileage has increased about 2 to 3 mpg. IOW, I am now getting 52mpg to 54 mpg here in the northeast (it's fall but motor needs to warm up especially in the AM - chilly in AM but not yet freezing cold).

My Gen2 has about 259k on the motor and transaxle. While the HV battery was replaced 27 months (58.5k mules) ago with a reconditioned $800 battery. Actually bought this Gen2 with bad HV and 12V batteries. When I bought the car I put a used 12V in it which lasted 27 months. I am now getting best gas mileage since I first bought the car.
