I did (almost) read lenghty thread by u/Britprius which is excellent source of knowledge but it is almost 10 years old and as usually proposed tyres are no longer made.
Before I start browsing internet to find what now, I'm asking what you guys can advise for now, I have 16 rims and think I'll go into 205/55/16 option ideally with A in wet and dry grip.

What were the brand and model of the OEM tires there? I’ve often found the OEM is the best choice if still available.

    Still can't make decision.
At the moment have 2 options:
    Turanza 205/55R16 BST T005 91V
    205/55R16 FALKEN ZE310AEC 94VXL AO
And I have no clue what was OEM stock fitment 13 years ago but for sure they were not 205/55 and there are better options now.

It will almost certainly be irrelevant to the UK market.

Tires (tyres) are probably one of the most region-specific components that do not translate well across regions.

Even if a named make and model tire that is available in America (for example), it is more than likely that the same named make and model tyre in the UK (for example) is a totally different tyre. In addition, often a particular manufacturer's models of tire are not available in other countries which also reflects this same idea of regional differences.

Costco added Michelin 205/55 R16 (91)H PRIMACY 4 to the list. I'm not their customer but can source rubber elsewhere.

In the USA Costco site, they usually will list a number of options for any given car and trim level then one of the options will be identified as the Original Specification.

I don't want original spec, 205/55 is bigger than original.

    Then don’t buy the OEM.

I guess I misunderstood your original statement “and as usually proposed tyres are no longer made.” As meaning the tires that came with the car.

Probably I was not clear enough this is about tyres proposed in thread I've refereed.
