To give a data point, I shopped around in LA by calling multiple Toyota dealerships and the cheapest I got was $185 (before tax).

I'm in LA. Which battery and where did you buy?

So far the part number 00544-21171-325 is $189 at Longo online and $225 at Autonation Irvine in person.

Hello - Resurrecting this thread again. Main question I have - Is there a good reason the dealer won't replace my battery 3yr old battery that is at 7.8V under the prorated warranty?

I have a 3 year old Truestart Battery from South Bay Toyota. When I came home from a trip in July, it was dead. Like really dead. I used an aux jump start battery to get home and then started calling around for replacement batteries. None of the dealers in LA had them. I waited months, and finally Toyota of Hollywood got some. I asked if I could bring the battery in for warranty replacement, and their Parts Dept said no - warranty replacement must go through service and they have to run a diagnostic and the car has to fail. So I reinstalled the battery, jumped the car to get there.

Toyota of Hollywood was very friendly, but they don't seem to be giving me the right info regarding the health of the battery. They charged the battery and could only get it to 7.8V, but told me that it doesn't fail their tests, so they will not replace it under warranty. They also said that the car will start with 7.8V. Am I crazy? I thought an AGM battery had to be 12.1V minimum, and should really be closer to 12.7V. This battery sat dead for 3 months, and the Toyota dealer is telling me that it fails no tests and is good to go at 7.8V. Oh, and also, they charge $75 diagnostic even if its a warranty issue, and the battery costs $299 here!

does the car start? it depends on how much voltage gets to the right places when you power up.
on the face of it, it seems it should not pass at 7.8v
did they give you a printout for your $75.?
there should be no charge if it doesn't pass muster
