Good Prius Friend @bisco mentioned side effects.

I got my first shot this morning and thought ‘this one seems different.’ I have a needle phobia that normally is controlled but I actually felt a little ‘shockie.’ After letting it pass, went for lunch and driving home, overpowering waves of sleepy. I parked and took a drowsy nap!

Two hours later, wakefulness is coming back but a nap seems very attractive still. Schools let out so safer to drive but D*MN.

Am I alone in this? Will call pharmacy.

Mine wiped me out, drained my energy to basically just vegging on the couch for a day. I got really sore, but slept fine. The second shot was similar, but not quite to that degree.

And shingles is the one you usually need to pay, around $100? Maybe you should get payed. Haven't had the pleasure, btw.

Mine cost $180 but still cheap compared to the disorder. I sure wish Medicare could do something about the price. This is not a new vaccine and treating shingles would be so much more expensive.

I had my first shingles a couple weeks ago, on September 28, and plan on my second shot January 21, to take advantage of the long weekend. One arm hurt for about three days. (four days for my wife)

The pharmacy reports this is common and I let my physician know. I’ll write it up and share with everyone. Sounds like a ‘heads up’ needed with this shot.

It might be best late in the day so you can be home.

It's a two shot series, the second shot is two to six months after the first one.

Mine were covered as preventive. I think when I saw the insurance report later, that was roughly the amount shown, but my copay was $0.

First one didn't seem like much of anything at first, then my arm started hurting a few hours later. Hurt for about 14 hours, then got better. That was about the only effect for me. Made me grumpy for that time, 'cause my arm hurt.

I had heard somewhere the second one might be worse, but for me it was milder than the first.

Got the first one, seems like a decade ago ..... maybe even longer ago. It was when the first Rev came out. I understand there are multiple varieties to Vax shingles now? And - supposed to be better then the rev1. Maybe it's time for a booster. Had shingles once & it was a horrible experience. The shot? no symptoms

Shingrix (TM) has always been two doses. From Day 1. It was approved in 2017.

Maybe you were thinking of the old Zostavax, which was discontinued last year? Shingrix is much more effective, people who have had just Zostavax should consider getting Shingrix too.

It was the only game in town for over a decade, so that it probably what many people remember, especially the seniors old enough to get vaccinated before the new-and-much-stronger kid (Shingrix) arrived.

I'm a younger senior, not reaching qualifying age until after Shingrix arrived. While I've heard lots of talk about after affects, I particularly remember none for my second shot, but likely because of the long bicycle ride immediately after, exercising the arm very well and masking any other symptoms. Either that, or my body saved up all its vaxx complaints for this year's flu shot, which left me with a fairly substantial bruise.

yep, i was in bed for 3 days after the first shot, a week after the second. or it sure seems like it, been over a year now. mrs b's was bad, but not as bad as mine. sore arm was the least of it. we didn't pay anything.
flu shot also knocked me for a loop last year, nothing this year.

i'm not looking forward to the covid booster, coming mid november

Not mentioned but AutoPilot saved a nodding shingles patient. About a mile down the road, I first noticed how sleepy I'd become. But AutoPilot kept me in my lane and traffic aware cruise control kept me from running into other vehicles. AutoPilot is a serious and effective safety feature of all Teslas.

Yes, I am waiting on Full Self Driving to arrive as I've already bought it. Right now, the early adopters are finding the bugs that need fixing. I'd like to help but I'm also patient.

I had a friend from college who got shingles not many years after college, and made it sound absolutely horrible, so I started inquiring about vaccines pretty early. I remember Zostavax was the thing when I first started inquiring, but I was still too young for my doc to recommend it then.

Doesn't it depend on the health insurance? I did not have to pay for mine. In fact, my health insurance covers any immunization or other preventative testing 100%. I got mine last year. The 1st dose really got me. Completely down for at least 2 days. I think the comment from @bisco warned me the second dose is worse than 1st. But I did not have as bad of reaction on my second dose.

I got my first shingles vaccine a few weeks ago. Only effect was a sore arm for one day. Hope the booster is the same!

Mine was paid for by insurance. First shot in July, second one this month. Sore arm for a day or two, that was all. Had the first of two pneumococcal pneumonia shots (the 23 one) in July as well. Next July for shot #2 (the 13 one). Getting old is so much fun!!!

I was also thinking about getting that Shingrex shot soon. Sounds like a whale of a shot. My elderly mother had a bad case of shingles last year. She as a former nurse, had been a beta tester for the orig shingles vaccine. Harvard has a nurse program where they survey former nurses for their whole life, I think is how my mother got to be one of the first shingles vaccines testers. You can see the older vaccine was not so great, since she got it.
