Hey folks! New user here. Yesterday, I bought a 2007 base model. It's in pretty good condition for its age, but the multi-function display is toast. The screen is washed out so bad, it isn't visible during the daytime. You can just barely make out the screen at night, if you squint just right.

So I'm looking for replacement MFD screens on ebay, and have a concern. One of the listings says it's only the touch panel, not the LCD. On my unit, the touch panel works fine. It responds to user input like it should. But I can't see the screen. Are the touch panel and the LCD screen separate pieces? I want to make sure I get the right part.

    Thanks everyone! (y)

Thanks to the mods for moving this thread. But I'm pretty sure my car is a Gen 2. ;)

    Welcome to the Prius world!
I suggest you go the Generation 2 forum, this is the Generation 3 section.
You will find more information about your Prius.

I posted this in the newbie area. The mods moved it to Gen 3 for some reason.

Gah, I thought I moved it to the Gen 2.

    2, 3... it's all a blur :p.

Thanks. I've moved it to the Gen 2 section.

i’d say first turning the lights all the way up by scrolling up the dial for the lights on the left of the steering wheel. mine will adjust the brightness of the mfd. might be an easy fix since you just bought the car yesterday.

The screen is damaged. I'm assuming sun damage (I'm in Florida). Even with the brightness cranked all the way up, it's only legible at night. And even then, it's hard to see.

I did some more reading, and it seems I need to replace the whole unit. Bummer. I was hoping I could get away with one of those 20-dollar digitizers.

Tha'ts a bummer. Seems like it would be just the lamp that could be replaced.

The outer edges of the screen are visible, because that part isn't yellowed. But most of the screen isn't legible. I can take photos if that helps.

Here's a quick update. I decided to get one of those cheap digitizer panels on ebay, and install it. The good news is, the new digitizer works great. The bad news is, the LCD screen is damaged. See photo below.

I'm not sure how the LCD screen got damaged, without damaging the digitizer as well. Anyway, I bought a complete unit from ebay. When it arrives, I'll test it. And if it works OK, I'll put the new digitizer on it.

If the complete unit from eBay works OK, why would you need to put the new digitizer on it?

Or by complete unit, do you mean just the screen with digitizer?

The MFD unit arrived, the day before Thanksgiving. It works OK, so I'm going to leave it in there.

I bought a complete MFD unit, not just the screen. I found one with exactly the same part number on ebay, and at a good price. On my unit, the plastic bezel was also deteriorating. So this killed two birds with one stone, so to speak.

In addition to that, I also replaced a faulty capacitor in the gauge cluster. So now I have a fully functional dash!

I'm sure this stuff has been covered a million times before. But I decided to make a video about it, to document my progress.

    Thanks!

The next task will be to replace the antiquated radio and some dead speakers. I can make a video on that, as well.
