Folks, I am a month into trying to get my 2011 base 3rd Gen working properly with an aftermarket unit. I'll start from the beginning.

Ordered a Pioneer 1770Nex unit (basic touchscreen pioneer), backup camera, PAC audio interface and appropriate wire harnesses from Crutchfield. Got everything installed, things seem to work ok, except for backup camera not triggering the head unit when I shift into reverse. (still unsolved).

2nd problem is the buttons on the wheel dont map properly and no matter what I do I cannot get this to work. I have the steering wheel that has the up and down volume on the top row left side, and the tune up and down on the bottom of the left button. Right side I have the temp up and down left to right on the bottom row. It seems some prius models have the button layout different where the volume up and down were moved top and bottom on left side and same with the climate controls as well. not sure on that one. trying to remap doesn't seem to work.

So when we determined the PAC wasn't able to control things properly, cructchfield suggested I order the idatalink maestro rr because its more programmable.
Same exact problem. No matter how I manually map the buttons I can't get them to do what is on the wheel. I guess I will just live with that.

But, what I notice now with the maestro hooked up is that the car doesn't shut off properly.
When I put my foot on the brake, push the power button, the car turns on normally. When I put the car in park, then hit the power like I normally do to shut it off, the car behaves strangely.

The dash lights go out except for the clock and odometer. The radio stays on. Then when I go to open the door, the car beeps at me as if the car was still on. If I get out of the car, I hear 3 loud beeps and the dash says "key not detected", which tells me the car thinks it's still on. I cannot clear this condition.
I've tried holding the power button down for 3 seconds then double pushing it rapidly.

If I disconnect the idatalink completely, the power off procedure occurs normally and I am able to lock the car etc.

Anyone have any ideas? I have been messing with the car for over a month and I have to call it quits on this project and bring it to a professional (major defeat).

I wonder if the add-on is somehow interfering with CAN transmissions. I had a funny experience in my Gen 1 where a built-wrong add-on wire harness was bridging one side of the LAN to the cassette eject button, which didn't really make either thing work right.

Also, you may want to check whether your car has the Touch-Tracer steering wheel buttons or not; they're wired differently.

Can you elaborate what touch tracer buttons are?
So full disclosure, my base had no phone buttons on the left side and I swapped out the controls for a 2012 model's controls. This has the hang up answer buttons, and the newer button layout. But there's no way to reprogram what the car projects on the screen.

The car worked normally with the PAC interface albeit the buttons were wrong.

I think what I might do is take the old circular controls from the old wheel to keep the phone buttons...
The car turnoff problem is the most distressing

Touch Tracer is the version where a diagram of the steering wheel buttons shows up over the speedometer and shows which button your finger is on. In that version, there is a microprocessor contained in the steering wheel switch pad and it communicates with the display using a serial protocol.

So that all works normally. Car sees the appropriate button being pushed. But the maestro seems to mess it up or at least between dash and climate and radio is wrong.

    ***UPDATE***
Fixed my power off issue. There is a red connector in line with the maestro that was back feeding constant power. It is not needed in my install. Now I need to figure out button issues.
