I can see someone getting some reconditioned packs and restoring old vehicles to electric.

Well hello.... that's really interesting. I can't think of any old Fords I'd like to do this with, but I hope it inspires a few other automakers to do something similar.

i like the idea, depending on how much and how complicated.

reading the announcement, it just looks like a desperate plea for publicity

It is already available to buy.
GM released one a few years ago.

Seems like they must have plenty of Mach-E drive trains in order to be able to offer this.
Odd that they don't want to use them in a higher priced complete car.

$3,900 each. Bring your own inverter and EV-sized battery.

If they have more drive trains than battery packs, I think is a great way to get more EVs on the road.

Meanwhile, GM is offering the ZZ632, a 632 cubic inch, 1004 hp @ 6600 rpm on pump gas, crate motor. Seems that these two companies bases are diametrically opposed.

At least one is a 'doomed' company.

Except GM started offering EV crate motors and supporting equipment, and not just excess supply from an EV product, several years ago. GM might be setting themselves up to be an EV supplier to other car companies.

There was a time when Saturn was using the Honda V6 and trans in their Vue.

The original Taurus SHO engine was from Yamaha.
Plenty of cross pollination to be seen when you start digging.
