    Hello!
I have read a few posts already about my problems but wanted to be specific and looking for advice.
A few days ago I moved the Prius and parked it/turned off. When I went back after a few hours to park it back where it was it would not start. I was getting the "P" errors stating it was not in park. After charging the 12v battery it started right up no problem. I left it on the charger for a few more hours (2 amp charge) and the next day it was fine. Drove it for 2 days no problem but at the end of the second day it would not start again and the battery was dead. I jumped it to get it started and installed a new battery today. I drove it around a little bit for errands and when I got back home I noticed that the battery was not fully charged so I put it on the charger again. After a few hours I took it off the charger and started it up and noticed the dash would not light up but the touch screen did. Also, the back up camera was not working. Also, when I went to turn it off it would not shut off but I kept trying and it felt like it did but the touch screen was still on. After messing with it for a bit and reading these forums, I put the key fob in the slot and then turned it off, pulled the key fob out and everything shut down normally.
I rechecked all the battery connections and all is good.
So it starts but no dash lights and I need to put the fob in the slot to turn off.
This is about as far as I go mechanically with this car so I realize I need to take it in. What I would rather not happen is to get hosed by a Toyota repair shop or dealer.
After reading my story does anything stand out that I can do either to fix or eliminate stuff so when I do get it in a shop they won't rake me over the coals?

    Thanks for any help!
    Jim

i would start with a volt meter and measure the 12v with the car off, to be sure it is fully charging. a new battery should be close to 13 volts.
then turn the headlights on and measure again after 5 minutes to see what it does under load.
    shouldn't drop below 12 volts.
do all the measuring at the jump point under the hood.

if that all works out, measure again with the car off in the evening, and again in the morning to see if something is draining the battery

also, it could be a bad combo meter. are you seeing the speedo when it is running?

IF......your new battery was mostly dead upon purchase, it might take up to 12 hours to get a decent charge in it and maybe 24 for a full charge with a 2 amp charger.
Also sometimes new batteries are "bad" off the shelf.
Beyond that, you probably need a shop.

Update: The next day the car started fine and everything worked including dash and back-up camera. Battery tests at 13v but does not show fully charged on the touch screen.
    Fingers crossed!

It appears that your combination meter is going bad. Check this forum, there are several posts about it. In summary you can buy or repair the part for $100 online.
