Shot Put at Olympics

    I just watched the Shot Put. It was special to see at least one event at the first Olympic venue. Puts the entire games in perspective. US putter faults, silvers, and it is a just call. Sad. Glad. Wonderful.

    its ironic in that the original games did not include the shotput. the event was added in 1896. they had thought about the discus but the discus area was too small with the modern day throwers able to throw the discus completely out of the playing field.

    I didn't see it, but read articles on it. I think that using the ORIGINAL site was a cool idea. Another cool thing is giving the medal winners wreaths.

    I was really emotionally moved. I thought it was perfect...no charge for the audience who sat on the grass hillside overlooking the original Olympia events site.

    No fancy colorful banners, no big digital TVs/displays, no fancy dancy modern crap except that essential for scoring measuring and communications.

    Just raw sport--man in nature in that awesome setting...truely memorable.
