Hi everybody, need a little advice on the following..
On a right turn l will put on my turning signal (duh) but when l turn my steering wheel back again after the corner my indicator will switch off BUT l get an extra blink, for a split second, to the left. On a left turn this will not happen. Not a very big deal but l find it annoying and l would like to see it fixed. Any advice? Tia!

In Boston, traffic signals are mere suggestions... ;)

My first guess would be that this is nothing more than a matter of manufacturing tolerances within the turn signal switch. As it bounces back toward the center position from a right turn, yours happens to make brief electrical contact for the left.

What does it do if you gently return the switch to the center position yourself after the right turn, rather than allowing the automatic cancel to do it as you return the steering wheel?

The options are probably to do nothing, if it annoys you less than a certain amount, or to replace the switch if it annoys you more, and the odds are a replacement switch will be free of the issue.

It is quite possible that the US part I linked above is not quite the right one for the Netherlands, but it should give the general idea.

I have the same problem with both directions. Not using it isn't a solution in Germany, so I'm trying hard to ignore it. But it's kind of hurting my mind
Replacing the switch by myself seems too risky for me (airbag) and a replacement by my dealer is too expensive for my 14 years old Prius, I think.

Well, what does yours do if you gently return the stalk to center by yourself, rather than waiting for the mechanical cancel to do it?

If l return it myself or when l keep it from coming down all the way after the turn there's no extra blink. Replacing the switch will probably solve the issue but is it worth it? For now not really but maybe in the future ; )

Same as mine. No additional flashing after a manual reset to the center/off position. Possibly a spring is too strong or a stop is too weak.

Switch change out is not that difficult the airbag really has nothing to do with it except it's there you're going to unplug it you pull it off set it aside and then the rest is pretty simple everybody here will give you detailed instructions but it's it's really pretty easy even getting the nut off the steering wheel

Well, you're going to thoughtfully disconnect the 12 volt battery, and wait at least 90 seconds for the airbag ignition backup power source to discharge, and if you're cautious, you'll also have read up on the right and wrong way to set an airbag assembly down, and about the way the self-shorting airbag connector plugs work and why they work that way.

(For the record, the right way to set one down is bag up, so if it were to unintendedly deploy for any reason, it is not a kilogram of metal canister launched into the air at you. And nothing else gets set on it, of course.)

Everything else about the job you can approach about as casually as suggested above.

The switch is held to the steering column by something that's just like an overgrown springy hose clamp. It will not challenge you intellectually in the slightest, but you may still have spoken a few unkind words its way before you are done.
