I can't guarantee you after 2016 everything is fixed it still is ZZ engine. I personally stay in the Gen 2 that's the least problematic of all of them so far that I've seen and there's many millions of them still on the road the Gen 3's people seem to buy and quickly abandon and I don't see them getting repaired a lot the ones that get abandoned they get sold to LKQ and on about their business

My 2010 Gen3 had faulty pcv and it was replaced during egr cleaning. Interesting to see how it affect oil consumption. Earlier it was around 0.4-0.5/1000km. 212kkm on the clock (about 135k miles)

My 2010 used to burn some oil when I first got it on 234k, it now burns very little once you have regular good oil changes (254k). Prius are designed to Stop-Go style, so that makes the oil burnt sooner. So must be using quality oils. If I were you, I'd do one-time 1-2k oil change cycle after highway driving and also change PCV and installing Oil Catch Can. Im not an experienced guy but as most said the main reason is rings. If they get stuck because of carbon built-ups, that ll more pressure on the engine and there ll be more leaking liquid from PCV to manifold. This ll trigger a problem chain ending up with a worn head gasket :D

One problem with Prius is the fact that everybody is so very gentle with gas pedal. All the time. Car encourages to do so. But combustion engines like to be used. Rev it every now and then. My son got license and started driving the K20A2 Honda of ours and his driving style is so very eco. They teach it in driving school which is of course good thing but..it took couple months and Honda started occasionally iddle with three cylinders. So i told my son that this is one those things that is easy and fun to fix: we go to the higway and rev it. So we did and all good. I believe something similar going on with this Prius of ours. When we bought it and my other son floored when taking over a truck, black smoke was visible for a brief moment. Obviously car has been driven ultra gently by the previous owner. So i’ve got the oils changed, egr system and IM cleaned, pcv replaced and planning to change oils bit more often in near future. And my other son -the active driver of Prius- is not very enthusiastic with MPG’s so interesting to see what happens next

We drive the Prius it does not drive us we run in 70 and 7580 right regular and we don't generally leave the stoplights quickly but the Prius does reasonably good unless you you know run up on a big nice person sports car and even then the big loud sports car has to slow down because he's bringing the cops to him like flies on crap The Prius we've never been looked at twice in the Prius fly by the cops at 80 miles an hour and they're looking at the Challenger three cars behind not even paying attention to the Prius
