If a coolant leak is one that isn't noticed by the owner, a dealer isn't likely to spot it with a visual inspection.

Among the cars being shown: a sleek Lexus sports car, a camping type van, an FJ Cruiser type vehicle, a shuttle type vehicle (I remember when they were going to have a hydrogen shuttle vehicle at the Olympics--I guess they pivoted it to be an EV),

Hyundai supposedly was going to make their big Ioniq 5 US price announcement on the 17th (to go along with the Spiderman movie they are doing marketing with). They surprisingly announced their pricing this morning. I can't help thinking if there was any planning of upstaging Toyota in picking their announcement time. Probably not, but then again they are known to be aggressively competitive with Toyota.

    Very encouraging!
Here is the full script for anyone that missed it: Video: Media Briefing on Battery EV Strategies | Corporate | Global Newsroom | Toyota Motor Corporation Official Global Website

A couple of quotes from the first few paragraphs that I found especially encouraging…

Hopefully we will see a quick rollout of the vehicles shown. They didn’t really nail down a timeline beyond the 2030 & 2035 targets listed by others.
I look forward to seeing these nationwide (not just CARB states) soon.

Wow, in that picture of their upcoming cars, does the one second from the right in the front row look like a Prius.

    Toyota calls it bZ SDN

Some others are calling it the electric Corolla

Did anyone watch the video? The thing that spoke to me more than the quotes was Akio Toyoda smiling when he drove the RZ prototype. Recall the last time he drove an electric car that his engineers made (electric 86 sports car), he went "meh, it's an EV".

So the fact that he's enjoying the drive gives me more confidence in Toyota's future BEV.

    Hmm, I think that's a sedan.

Darn. I thought it looks like a Camry but I guess the size does look like a Corolla (Especially since Corollas are big now).

Assuming he can't act. Earlier rides were before he saw EVs as a threat.

The window sticker to my 2005 Prius called it a sedan, and the current model looks even more like a sedan. The first Prius truly was a sedan. In a world of four door coupes and tall wagons, car body style labels are really flexible.

We got package & pricing info for the UK market today.

For some perspective, the lowest priced VW ID.4 there with similar battery & power is £41,330. The equivalent model here is $39,995.

Hopefully, we'll be getting detail for our market soon.

So the bZ4X will cost less than $39,999. Wow. Probably "$37,499" so that they can say "under $30,000 after federal incentives".

Recall that the ID.4 there can be had with a 58kWh battery while we only get the "Pro" model with the 77kWh battery. Toyota's is 71kWh (72?) so they can price it under VW.
