Both front fenders being replaced? And active grill shutters?

I'm surprised that the <PARTS> isn't a lot more expensive.

Here, they generally add something like "further repairs may become obvious once disassembled".

Just the right front fender. And the grill shutters, too.

Yes, there is a note in the estimate about supplemental repairs. I want to stop by the shop on my way back from physical therapy this morning to see if they'll let me take a look at it. It's right along my way, so it's worth a shot.

Hope the repair turns out OK. I guess since your car is not drivable, the shop had to take it in quicker. I had a minor parking lot hit and run damage on my brand new PP over a month ago. The estimate came back from the insurance as ~$1600 but from 6 independent shops I visited, the estimates ranged from ~$800 to ~$$$4,300. I decided to take the car to a Toyota certified dealer body shop who gave me an estimate of ~$2800. The problem is that they are so swamped with works, no opening until mid-Jan. Still another month+ to wait.:cry::cry:

On the labor cost, I found their normal rate for mechanical labor. It's posted on a sign in the lobby that I hadn't noticed. They charged $70/hr to the insurance company but the sign says $95/hr.

I stopped in on my way back from physical therapy, but I was a little early. They said they'll be starting on it later this morning. So I'll try again in the early afternoon after my appointment with my knee surgeon. The manager said I was the first customer to ask to see their car after opening it up. I told him I've spent my whole life fixing stuff and I take a lot of interest in my cars. He seemed to like that attitude.

Be glad you don't have a Tesla. Their repairs tend to be outrageously expensive.

Looks pretty good. Any bending in that front/top frame? Nothing looks bent.

I think I saw something in the estimate about straightening something. Couldn't tell exactly what from reading their shorthand.

Actually that's a great price compared to mine....ended up being over $12K! While the shop did outstanding work (you can't find a single hint it had been repaired) I do think they replaced a lot of things that wasn't necessary. They removed and repainted the passenger door but I didn't see any damage on it when I turned it in but maybe the found something. (I looked at my pictures and didn't even get a picture of the door.)

Sometimes paint extends well beyond the damage zone, so they can “blend”. It’s body shop magic, gradually feathering out the colour coat, till they’re shooting clear.

They may have had to blend the passenger door to match the new paint on the fender. That's pretty common after the sun has had its way with a car's paint for a few years. I've been wondering if they'll have to do that on our car, too.

@Mendel Leisk, apparently you type faster than I do. Or you had a head start. LOL!

We finally got the car back from the repair shop. Sheesh!!! When are people going to start going to work again??!!

Total cost to the insurance company was $5,467. Total cost to us was the $500 deductible plus the ticket and the on-line driving course she had to take. I have no idea about the status of the other car.

It looks like they did a good job. The supposedly difficult blizzard pearl looks like a great match and blend. Actually, it looks quite a bit better than my Prime that's the same age (but the Prime has 2X the miles. LOL) They did manage to forget to turn the two little fasteners on the front of the right side fender well. That was easier to do myself than taking it back.

I'm thinking more like $7-8k ish assuming the motor itself its not damaged and its just the radiator and stuff like that..

EDIT: original guess was $9k but I wrote $7-$8k thinking no damage under the hood. I am late on this thread, lol. Car looks very nice now

Glad to see you have the car back. Think you are lucky that car was undrivable, thus they took you in quicker.

I have been waiting for my turn on minor sideswipe repair since October. I have an appointment in late Jan. Not a priority ticket for the body shop. The car is totally drivable with no safety issue, but still a ~$2K repair bill.

So far, she just drove it home from the shop which is exactly 0.5 miles away. We need to get it out on the road and test the sensors, steering, etc. I plan to take it for a spin later today.

@Salamander_King, that was a pretty good guess on the cost. I hope you can get yours fixed soon.

Did you take to it to a shop recommended by the dealer?

I took it to the shop (Sun Toyota Collision Center) that is operated and owned by the dealership (Sun Toyota). It's also by far the closest body shop and they treated me great.
