red prius.jpg So we got the chance to pick up a red 1 owner Prius in really good condition. Like new under the bonnet.
Clean car fax with only a few marks on the body.

    Drives great.

Has the navigation and some fancy review mirror options with heated seats & side mirrors.
Dont know much about the series 3 yet but what we can see that it cost just a few $ under 30K new.

got window tint and pulse brake light included in the buy price of $13,000. Might be a little pricy but the current market has a fair bit of price pressure on fuel efficient cars and the shortage in new cars.

I've owned new cars before and this is a close as you get to one that has been owned before.

Looking to add the fog lights and that's about it!

Just wondering, how it does from a cold start to a highway? Any rattling or misfire and rough mpg? It's way low mileage for some certain maintenances and issues. But still 11y old though, I d expect more mileage for a Prius at that age, who likes to be driven

WOW!! Do they not salt the roads in Montana?? My Prime came from New Hampshire and was only two years old. The hose clamps and the metal parts of the plugs on the back of the inverter all showed some rust.

What part is the urban myth? Why isn't it a suburban or rural myth?

I pat my Prius on the dash board when I get in to it and I swear it smiles back at me.

    Happy Holidays. ;)

No rough running or misfires as yet. We only had driven it a little bit to Billings and back for a total of 300 miles.
The last trip meter had 5,000 @ avg 24mph 43mpg. So it was mostly local driving around town.

I'll run the code analysis tool I use on the 08 and see if there are any pending issue.
I have the complete service history now so I know for the most part what's been done.

No they don't salt because of the deer I'm told - only been here a year - 4 years in Phoenix and well lots in South Australia before that.

Interesting. The devastation of salt is is so frustrating. Watching South Main Auto (YouTube garage in suburban New York State), whenever he's doing suspension or brakes, he's practically a blacksmith, burning and air hammering through the sad aftermath.

And it's not just carnage to the cars. It destroys road and bridges, too.

Got the code C1241. Not sure how long that has been there. Cleared it and restarted the car with it not retuning.
But no driving it today with all the snow falling - I guess we will find out if it comes back.

I dont see in the history if the 12V battery has been changed or not - but will get tested in the coming weeks if the code comes back.
Next is to make a service history list. :)

Also you may check the intake manifold by EGR pipe or at low speeds. After 15-20 min drive, if it misfires at very low speeds when ICE on, that means some of tiny holes in the intake are not breathing enough. And if you ever clean it, consider installing Oil Catch can

60k is NOT to early to start checking the Exhaust Gas Recirculation system. Sooner than later.

I figure as soon as the snow stops I can get out there and pull it apart - but tonight it's -2F on the way home with more snow on the way.
    Park and wait :)

I'd wait for spring, or later. You want to be comfortable when doing this.

It's been unusually cold for us, out on the west coast. Currently (7 am) minus 12 Celsius (+10 Fahrenheit). If it was -2 Fahrenheit, think I'd shatter...

EGR cleaning info in my signature.

Idea: use code reader to pull up the "mode 6" EGR flow test results, use info to prioritize possible further work in the spring.
