Two nights ago I was working doing deliveries. Lots of short trips. I would go to shut of car and it would shut off but the radio and display screen would stay on like it was in ACC mode. I Would have to have to hit the power button several times and it would eventually shut off. Then the Check Hybrid System light came on. Car runs fine. Of course I had taken my code reader out and put it in our other car a few days ago. The light eventually went out. When I got home I checked the codes: P085D - transmission shift control module.
I ran Dr. Prius tests several times and got inconsistent results. One time it showed several modules with problems. Repeated it twice and everything was fine. Life expectancy test was Fair at 39.98. I repeated it twice but it said it wasn't giving accurate results because something was charging the battery.

I cleared the code and it hasn't come back. It has been running fine, including power ups and downs.

I did the front brakes about 10 days prior and disconnected the battery. I wouldn't think a problem would be that delayed from that.

I think I'm gonna take it in and get the hybrid and 12v batteries checked.

    2016 v 147,000 miles

    Any ideas?

I'm not sure I follow the logic of doing a bunch of hybrid battery tests after being told about a shift control issue.

Likewise here, I think their time would be better spent looking in the area the car has flagged for you.

I read that problems with the traction and/or 12v batteries can cause weird symptoms and codes. With the car going into accessory mode and having to push the power button several times to shut it off, the door handle intermittently responding to lock the car, associated with the Check Hybrid System light coming on for a short time I just thought I would check here if anyone experienced similar symptoms.

I'm taking it into a hybrid shop in a few days to have it checked on Tech Stream.

Yeah, we have an ongoing problem with that here. The idea that coins can sometimes land on edge keeps getting recirculated so much that people end up thinking "edge" before "heads" or "tails".

Gee, how can I ever repay you for your help. I hope that momentary feeling of superiority was enough.

Sorry if it sounded like I was blaming you. I wasn't. You're not the first person to come to our forum here looking for good information and end up being sent in detours that slow you down, because of how many posts you find and read here that suggest you should chase after the coin-on-edge explanation before looking at heads or tails. That doesn't make it your fault. I'm really saying we in the forum could have done better with the information you found here.

(I've read the usual advice about how it's hard for people to read tone if you're not putting in enough emoticons, but we've only got a certain selection of smilies here, and it looks like "I'm sorry you got sent in that direction and I wish we did better here but it isn't your fault" isn't one of them. I wonder what that one would even look like. :))

When you get to the hybrid shop in a few days, as long as you'll be there already, with any luck they will also try some of the troubleshooting steps that in fact go with the P085D code that you have, illustrated in post #3.
