    It's probably wise to be suspicious of American insurance companies in general.... I kind of want to call them (Progressive), but I don't know if it would be weird or not.... it's not like I'm planning to get my Prius totaled! I didn't even drive to the grocery store during our recent Seattle snow event.

    I would hope so. It's literally all over every media outlet that $29K is the new average for used cars. If that's the value, that's the value....

    Yeah, I think it shouldn't even matter about the different optional "rider" policies. I have comprehensive and collision, and insurance companies are always supposed assess a car's value in the event of a totaling. Well, if the car's worth is $29K it's $29K, conventional wisdom be damned.
