    Thanks Sleeka

Hey spoke to the guys at Sydney City Toyota, there are actually 4 recalls depending on the age of your car, they said they will take care of them as they come into service. Ask your dealer.

Nice car Kent. Black would be one heck of a job to keep clean with the amount of country driving I do. Red is bad enough :)

Gday people, I'm new here, this is my first post. What a great resource this site is, I've already been reading for a couple of weeks now, but I thought I'd join up and introduce myself.

I'm from Perth and our brand new Prius i-Tech is scheduled to be delivered in mid-late October (ordered in late August). We had a choice of Silver or Black for the October allocation but black is such a difficult colour to live with, so we went with the silver. After reading about the delays earlier in the year I sure hope everything goes smoothly with our delivery date in Oct. BTW Whats this about Toyota giving you web-based updates of delivery? I haven't received anything like that. Is that because our car was allocated to dealer already (and we just bought it from the allocation)? Or am I being impatient, and will get it closer to the date?

I'm really looking forward to driving the Prius, the test drive was such a great experience and being an engineer I'm totally hooked on the technology of the car.

I'm sure I'll have a bunch more questions and comments as I get closer to and begin ownership.

    Hi Cary,

Welcome to Priuschat! Glad to see another Australian join the board :)

Congrats on your new iTech purchase. I've had my one for just over two weeks now and I still love driving it. The technology is amazing and when you get yours I'm sure you'll enjoy plenty of years of fun driving! The GPS can be a life saver!

With regards to the web updates, I received a letter in the mail from Toyota's head office in Australia that gave me my login name and password for checking on the status of the car. I got this letter around two weeks after I ordered the car.

I ordered mine on June 29, and it was delivered to me on August 29 (exactly two months), so I'm sure your car will be similar.

If you've got any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

    Cheers,
    Kent

    Thanks Kent.

Lo and behold I got a letter from Toyota today. By logging on I learn that my Prius is at stage 1, "Order Created - Vehicle scheduled for production". Am I underestimating Toyota, or does that not bode well for an October delivery?

p.s. Is it true that the aussiec prius' don't get voice recognition commands?

    Hey everyone!

New member here! I've been receiving some great information about Prius from this site for a couple of weeks now. Heard about hybrid car for quite a while and when I have an assignment to do audit on any automotive brand, I suddenly thought of Prius!

So I'm conducting this survey on Prius for my postgraduate assignment and I reckon priuschat is the perfect place to organise a research like this. The research is for study purpose only, not commercial survey. The questions are constructed to understand the awareness of the car. They're not really into the technicals or usage of Prius/other hybrids.

The survey takes less than a minute, only 10 simple questions, and you can directly check and compare the results online.

Here's the link to the survey:

Branding survey - toyota prius http://www.my3q.com/home2/119/andiraa/prius_survey.phtml

Feel free to contact me for further info or if something is not clear. Thanks for your help.

    Cheers,
    Andini

I finally cracked the majic figure of less than 5L/100km for a full tank of petrol.
Filled up the car and drove (stop/start) locally for a week. Result - 6.3L/100km.
Then drove to Hobart and spent 4 days there before driving home. Result - 850km with an MFD reading of 4.7L/100km and I still have 2 bars on the gauge.

    Hello all!

Busy time of the year! Finding stonechips on the car not happy!

How much do you love your car guys? every six months I use a paint cleaner, seal the paint and put 3 coats of wax on in a two stage process, 2 coats then overnight and the final, then I detail the plastics and cleant he insides. I wax it four times a year, over the top?

Other news my sister picks up her 2006 standard nest saturday! Two Prii in the family now. She has a baby on the way and it was the perfect combination of size and economy.

Ok so wher do i get a stone guard, headlight protecters etc?

DD, have you considered the 3M clear-bra or do you require something a bit more stout than that?

    G'day, Duck,
The clear bra is the way to go. I have one on mine, and you can get the installer to cover any areas you wish...even up the windscreen pillars, backs of mirrors and behind the door handles (for careless fingernails, rings etc). A firm called "Invisishield" does them in Brisbane, so surely there is a dealer in Sydney. Try good window tinting firms for a contact.
The headlights are polycarbonate, but you can have them covered with the film as well if you choose to. Get the paint chips fixed first, though.

Have you put an order in yet for an '09 model for the baby?

    Sleeka.

Sorry Cary, I missed your question and I did not see any replies to your query.
Unfortunately we do not get voice commands except for using a bluetooth phone. When setting up the phonebook in the car you can read in voice commands. However, the system seems to miss the first part of the command so what I did is start the command with "Ring".
So my commands go something like:
    Ring Gary
    Ring home
    Ring John

The clear bra on yours looks good, Sleeka. I've enquired locally and there is a company in Rockhampton, which is where I get my car serviced, that does something similar. The only problem is that they only do 100mm thick strips, so I'll probably have to wait until the next major trip to Brisbane to get the full treatment. Any budget indication of how much it costs?

These stone chips are a real pain. The road that I travel twice a week is undergoing major works including realignment etc. If you look really close, there are tiny white spots all over the front bonnet, plus some bigger chips. I'll probably have to get it fixed up professionally before I get it done. They recommend at least 2-3 weeks before applying the 'clear bra'.

The cost of the bra depends entirely on what areas you want protected. The basic kit covers the bumper and half the bonnet....then you go up (and sideways etc) from there to cover any other areas such as the whole bonnet; front areas of the guards; mirror backs etc. etc.
From memory, the basic kit is around $425 installed.
Definetly get the damaged areas repaired first, and allow the paint to cure properly for 2 weeks before applying the film.

I've seen the kits but don't like the way they look, also will they leave a mark as polycarbonate reflects UV.

Duck's sister has a baby boy and a prius '06 standard. How cool is that!?

Duck likes his '05, you know they've changes the interior to this ugly imitation leather stuff on the top panels? It's yuk. I'm going to hang on to this car for a long time now, only getting a new one in a few years or when mrs Dojers needs a car.

Thanks for the car bra advice, but that's on the back burner for now, the JBL in my car is really annoying me, I want to add a subwoofer and get rid of those awful speakers I know this is where I should look but I honestly can't find the griity stuff you know how to remove door trims what size speakers depth of the enlsure, help!

Do you have any diagnostic codes? You might wanna post on one of the technical forums in the main prius section. Some of the folks there may be able to help you figure it out.

    Best of luck!
