Cat was stolen in CA. Searched until I found post of partial Magnaflow and Welder. Will this work?

After reading why it’s not a good idea to buy a cat on ebay, especially in California. I found this post.
If I even have a 50% chance of passing smog:
Can someone please tell me the partial part that he bought from Magnaflow. Also the best place to buy the 2nd LONG part that the Magnaflow part connects to?

    Post below I found below

“the four bolts are easy enough to remove and take the center section of exhaust in to your favorite welder to splice in the replacement.”

My guess is that they're going to look under the car because there can't be that many 2007 Priuses left in California WITH the original catalytic converter.

My strategery would be to get the inspection done on a very busy day and pray for governmental inefficiency.

    Good Luck!

I’m sorry I’m out of my realm here, but can you tell me that the two parts I need? (I attached them in the post)

Also their are thousands of 2007 Priuses in Southern California. Half the cabs out here are Gen 2.

No, not definitively but somebody else will chime in I'm sure.

I never said that there were not thousands of G2s in the California, but rather that a large percentage of them have been victims of catnapping - so there cannot be very many of them left with the original cats.

    Good Luck.
Hopefully somebody will see this thread ang give you a part number or provide a picture.

    Good Luck!
let us know how it turns out!

"Can someone please tell me the partial part that he bought from Magnaflow."

He bought the Magnaflow and you bought Magnaflow from him?

Maybe you should start over again, confusing as hell. You have the Magnaflow box or those are the sellers pics. In the box? Box has no part number?

What is the exhaust pictured next to the Magnaflow part. Is that your exhaust?

Pic of Magnaflow is not a Prius cat, maybe for another vehicle. Pic attached of Prius CA approved Magnaflow cats.

What is left of your current exhaust system? (pictures may help)

Did they steal the 2 cats and the resonator, and just left you the muffler and tail pipe?

Did you save (or did they leave) the manifold bolts/springs (2x), flange donut, rear bolts (2x), and intact rubber hangers (2x) ?

(in another thread you already acknowledge needing the downstream oxygen sensor as well.)

Look closely at the image you've posted, there are three (3) bulbous looking things that start from the front of the vehicle (bottom of the screen). Usually the thieves will take this first two (front and rear catalytic) and leave the longer piece (resonator), but not always. I would consult with a CA BAR referee ( https://asktheref.org ) about which pieces are required to pass smog, as you may need more than a just the front and rear cat. And since the replacement cost is so great, you may be able eligible for CAP : https://www.bar.ca.gov/Consumer/Consumer_Assistance_Program/Repair_Assistance_FAQ

Front catalytic converter - Part #: 5631306 (2700+tax - if you only need the front)
Rear catalytic converter - Part #: 5671305 (800+tax - if you only need the rear)
Direct Fit catalytic converter - Part #: 5631752 (4509+tax - is that twice the actual toyota dealer price for the complete assembly?)

These prices and part #s are from autozone or oreilly websites, so I don't know how accurate they are, and may be cheaper elsewhere.

Thinking the dealership pricing might be the least expensive option, but do the research.

Do you have a protection plan for after this replacement, or will the neighbors come and borrow the newly fitted replacement again?

Do you (or a friend) happen to know a smog tech?

Generally it is frowned upon to create more than one thread for an issue, as it creates confusion when trying to follow or participate.

Does anyone know whether this YouTube account is giving good information?
They claim to be an exhaust system shop located in Sacramento CA:

I live in Illinois where aftermarket catalytic converters are legal. CA, on the other hand, has more regulations, so I can't offer any advice to people who live in CA.

My 2005 Gen2 Prius cat was recently stolen. I intend to replace it with the Walker brand unit available from Rock Auto ($330).

What information in the video are you questioning? The video was made in 2020 before CA started allowing Magnaflow cats as a legal option.

Correct: The presenter even suggests checking the CA .gov database web address shown in the video ssl.arb.ca.gov/AftermarketParts/catalysts for current information. As of today "Car Sound Exhaust System, Inc." aka MagnaFlow has many approved universal and direct-fit parts.
