    Here's the update.
As i mentioned before i would be trying out my cousin's 05 prius, i did try his car.
And the brakes on his car are as smooth as normal car. I tired with hard braking, slow braking, gradually lifting the foot off the pedal just before stop, very very light pressure on the pedal before and after stop...............and all the things we have discussed so far ......
    And guess what ?
No squeaking .......grabbing......squealing....absolutely nothing......just felt as my car before it started doing the jerky stops....

I think i noticed a pattern, When i start the car within that session if the stutter doesn't happen it won't happen at all.

On the other hand if i start the car and i get the stutter it will be consistent.

    Anyone else notice this ?

    P.S i still need more names/vin numbers !

    Update:

At the dealer... Could not duplicate the problem. Of course it's been as dry as a popcorn fart around here the last few days. I go to the dealer and the next day it rains and the car starts up again. Not as bad this time though. I think it's getting much less severe or it just hasn't kicked in from the weather. They did tell me to stop in when it's happening, so maybe there's still a chance.

    VIN sent to lowspeed.

I'm going to see if I'm experiencing this trend. Maybe this is why I haven't been able to get it to stutter lately. Today coming to work, it was stuttering even at the end of the drive of over 30 miles. I could make it happen at will with ease. Other days it never does it at all no matter how hard I try to make it stutter.

If you haven't sent your VIN to this email and are having this problem, please send it. If we can get enough cars with stuttering brakes together we might have more hope to find a fix with Toyota. Thanks!!

    06 Prius, pkg 4.

Bought in WY this past June, live in SD. (semi arid climate, not much moisture)

"Grabby" brakes problem happens below 5 mph when easing off pressure to avoid a jerky stop.

Mostly feels (and sounds) like it's coming from the front driver's side. Feels like the brakes stick, then let go a bit, then stick some more, and let go a bit...

Started at about 8500 miles, about 30% of the time, now at 15,000 miles and it does it about 95% of the time.

Just had my third appointment at the dealership here in Rapid City, and yet again I couldn't repeat it with the tech in the car.

Doesn't seem to coincide with rain or snow, but does seem to coincide with colder temps. It was warmer today, plus my car was in their garage for 20 minutes prior to test driving.

    Here's an update:

So far i have 8 VINs

I don't see any pattern in the vins but for the fact that they are all 06's

The people that have the problem can you try this out?

Next time the car has the stuter when you're at a stop can you restart the car? (simply press the Start button twice while having the brakes on) Don't forget to put it back to drive ...

Let me know if it happens again within that drive.

Hobbit - as much as I REALLY appreciate your technical knowledge, and great web pages... this is NOT the same problem. Where I live, my disks simply never rust, and though I've tried your "remedy" it has nothing to do with this problem, and most definitely has made no difference the several times that I have tried it in desperation. NO, the problem is not life-threatening. It is simply annoying and unnerving. It is something that makes new passengers ask, "what the hell is that all about?" It would be annoying in ANY vehicle. I don't know if it is only the '06's, but it certainly happens in MY '06!

Absolutely, 100% sure that it is not the gas motor shutting down. I know exactly what that ICE-stop-shudder feels like, and this ain't it! This braking shudder happens when the ICE continues to run, or when it is already off. It is the brakes. It has nothing to do with the ICE or with rust on the rotors. It is apparently something that some folks have never experienced, yet feel compelled to comment on!

I have an 07 with this and about 2000 miles. In another thread it was attributed to the switch from regenerative braking to real disk brakes. Apparently some cars show more or less of this behavior. Now that I know what this is, I am not concerned any more and I seem to notice less and less each day.

You obviously did not read the description of this issue.

This happens right before the car comes to a stop. (and i mean right before ... not 6-8 mph)

Be happy you don't have the issue. cause once you feel the issue you know what it'sall about.

I've had no brake problem at first, then it starts in the same session. I've also had it happen at first then go away, then come back, then go away within the same session.

Yeah, mine is the same way. No logical pattern that I can discern. My guess is that I could MAKE it happen at any time if I wish. I try to avoid it, but sometimes there's no way to safely avoid the perfect situation that creates it.

Just replying so I remember to e-mail you my VIN. We have been seeing this on our '06 pretty much since we bought it last January. Over 20k miles and it is still happening.

My 2006 has 7000 miles on it and it just started doing this when it got cold out. I just came back from a 400 mile trip and the brakes worked fine in the warmer climate, but when it gets below 40 degrees, the brakes stutter at about 2 to 3 miles a hour.

Same for me. When I originally read the post about it not happening within a given driving session, I started paying extra attention -- In fact for a few driving sessions it felt like it was true, but I have had many cases since then where the stutter doesn't happen for an hour, then happens for a little bit, and goes away again.

One interesting (?) bit for me was I got my tires rotated awhile back, and the problem went away for a little over two weeks, the longest it has even been "gone". do not know if they wiped the rotors clean, perhaps, which kept the stick/slip to a minimum for a period of time.

    I've got the stutter problem.

I had my tires rotated awhile back, and the stuttering went away for about two weeks, the longest it's even been "gone" in the 12k miles I owned it. do not know if maybe they wiped the rotors clean in the process, but it stayed away much longer than the shift-into-neutral-to-clean-the-rotors-off gig.

    Mine does this too.
