Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and am in the process of trying to find a older prius to purchase for a long daily commute vehicle. I have found a 2002 prius with 86000 miles on it for $6500 Out the door. The car is in very good condition and also includes the Nav system. Upon starting it up to take it for a test drive the triangle popped up and we ran a scan and received one code (P3006). The dealership drove the car a couple hundred miles without any warnings and then parked it on there lot, it has been sitting for 73 days and within that time they only started it a couple of times and moved it around within the parking lot to different spots. I have read several posts where the problem was the car sat for to long and it just needs to be drivin. Since this is the only code being displayed I thought that this may be the problem.... The dealership cleared the code and has been driving the car since I left without any warnings popping up.
I am open for any suggestions or previous experience with these issues. I am in the military and don't have a whole lot of money to play with to risk having to replace the battery.

    Thanks for your time,

Just got a reconditioned battery from green tech a few weeks ago that threw this P3006 code, they are coming back this week to exchange batteries, do you think this may be the issue, a bad cell within the reconditioned battery?

Unless the HV battery has been replaced with a new Toyota pack, you will need to replace the battery sooner or latter on top of the $6,500 asking price. It's been my experience the 3006 code is usually the first sign the battery is starting to go. Repairing is a cheap option, but especially in Gen1's, the repair doesn't last very long. Aftermarket rebuilt packs are another option, but the cost savings don't add up if the pack only last as long as the warranty.
