It was one of those. A university in Canada, IIRC.

But those aren't set up to mass produce, and bring it to market. The generic drug companies may not be equipped to get it approved for the new use. The main companies could, but they won't be able to jack up the price too much, because of the generic sources.

locally this last 2 weeks I've seen 4k new cases a day. It's back down to 1k new cases this week. 1k new cases for this county was what was being shown for the most during the second wave wnen it hit locally in Sept 2021. There was a lull in new cases for the months of July and August with 10k new cases for both months, and I thought the worse was over, than came September and in 6 months the new case count doubled for this county. Still, not even close to what's being seen in the New York City (tri state counties), but alarming at best.

That's one perpective of how well big pharm profits are being handled currently. And as long as we're not paying down tuition debt. that's probably not an issue either. But maybe the economy is still well within it's limits of entropy with plenty more room to grow at it's current rate.

we've heard of a lot of cases in friends and family the last few weeks. many more than we've heard about through the whole pandemic. must be mostly omicron, they've been fairly mild, and most everyone we know is vaxxed and boosted.

We've had some family members come down with it but no hospitalizations ... thankfully.

My brother George who is an ER nurse and his wife came down the original COVID-19.

When the country suffers 500,000 more annual deaths "with 'rona" than it ever experienced "before 'rona", does "from" vs "with" really matter all that much?

If I'm reading fuzzy1's post right, it was a response to #5374, which was another one of those "harp on the difference between 'from' and 'with' while ignoring the excess-deaths gorilla in the room" posts.

    of course it matters.

    "from" car collisions
    vs
    "with" car collisions

    matters also.

like it or not, bad information is a disservice to statistics.

also , did you accidentally suggest that someone "go catch Corona" , or was that on purpose ?

since I've had both the flu and common cold before, I already have. so have you.

who's ignoring ? we're differentiating here, not ignoring.

remember when we wanted to see "flu vs Rona" numbers, and we were told "the flu is gone" ?

    but now

flurona is "brand new, never before" ?

    dang

No, not to put too fine a point on it, I don't remember that. Strawman much?

It is worth remembering that in well-accustomed years with endemic flu, half a million fewer people died, whatever preposition floats your boat.

Apparently in folklore, it is a thing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_party

A COVID-19 party (also called coronavirus party, corona party, and lockdown party) is a gathering held with the intention of catching or spreading COVID-19. A number of news reports in the United States have suggested that parties have occurred with this intention. However, such reports appear to involve unsubstantiated media coverage without confirmatory evidence[1] or misleading headlines which misrepresent the content of an article.[2] There is no verifiable evidence of a party being held so that people would intentionally catch COVID-19. Such stories have been compared to folklore[3] and urban legend.[4]

The good news is Omicron appears to be peaking and less lethal.

You mean when 'rona containment efforts very effectively halted flu in its tracks? But even without any flu, total deaths still climbed sharply, as 'rona deaths far exceeded the flu deaths they displaced.

Of course. Flurona seems mostly to be just having two different diseases at once. Of course, battling two enemies at once can be worse that the sum of battling them just one at a time.

Before two years ago, we had never before faced 'rona, so flu long had the field all to itself. Then, for a year+, our anti-'rona efforts were even more effective against the flu than against the more contagious and deadly 'rona, so 'rona had the field almost to itself.

But now that so many people have quit doing anything to stop the spread of either disease, they finally have their first good opportunity to share the field. Some people now get both at the same time, and flurona is born. No surprise at all.

I'm just glad there are personal statistics be shared. It's not as important to me exactly which statistics are being debated. Thanks (all) for your contributions.

oh wow. you are seriously stating that you don't remember the CDC, the blessed foulci , the govt, all saying that "IS NOT THE FLU ANYMORE" , then directly saying "the flu is gone because y'all are wearing masks like good little citizens"
and then directly after that saying "y'all aren't wearing enough masks, that's why it's spreading" ?

I do. I remember laughing my nice person off when they couldn't remember which little white lie was the truth of the moment.

hmm, if we had more info, we might know if this is linked to all those super elite athletes falling over dead for hard to figure out reasons.

like I've said all along, the long term results problems simply aren't known, but they are do want to keep pushing it as "safe" for some reason

Mmm, nope. Why not link to a few actual transcripts so we c'd compare what they did say to your version?
