    Hello all,

I have a question about alloy wheel rims for a Gen 3 Prius "hybrid" (not V, not compact, not plug-in).

I want to buy a set of used wheels rims to mount snow tires.

The early (2010-2012?) Gen 3 Prius came with "five spoke" SILVER alloy rims (42611-47101, formerly 42611-47100).

The later (2013-2015?) Gen 3 Prius came with "five spoke" BLACK alloy rims (42611-47270).

Can I mount snow tires on silver alloy rims (from an early Gen 3 car) and mount them on a 2013 Gen 3 car?

The silver wheels-rims are both less expensive and easier to find (in used condition).

Yes, I read on this site that the black wheels-rims may have improved manufacturing specifications (and safety specifications). I plan to use the tires only during the snowy months.

I am not worried about the cosmetic difference (which is less obvious with the wheel covers which cover the spokes).

    Thanks for your ideas!

    Stephen

I think they're 100% compatible. The centre caps should be swappable as well.

I like the black rim with 5 spoke wheel cover of the 2012-2015 years over the 2010-2011 years with the silver wheel and different cover. However, if the wheel cover is not used, the silver looks better. Toyota has gotten a lot of use out of that alloy wheel design over the years.

4th gen 15" rims are also compatible, except they require a different centre cap: there's a groove inside the central bore for the centre cap jaws, and it's been shifted.

I have both a 2011 and 2015 Prius. The silver and black rims are completely interchangeable. I have snow tires on both silver and black rims and they work fine on either car.

If steel rims are being considered, these are 100% compatible too (hub opening an exact fit), what I'm using:

    Corolla 15" black steel rims p/n: 42611-02471
With lug nuts p/n: 90942-01007 (utilitarian, open-ended, galvanized)
