Toyota OEM Roof Rack

Quality? Toyota has been selling this rack in various widths for Toyota and Lexus vehicles for decades. I don't see a label on the installation instructions but I suspect it is made by Thule since other racks and cargo boxes sold by Toyota dealers in Europe carry the Thule brand.

I know this thread is somewhat old but I recently installed the OEM cross bars on my 2012 Prius v and I'm quite impressed. It's very sturdy and the fit and finish is much better than aftermarket racks. No extra length hanging off of the sides of the car and a perfect fit even with the panoramic roof. It also places the cross bars at the right height to keep them level which I know is an issue with some other racks. Haven't driven enough to give a verdict on fuel economy or wind noise but I will say that the low profile aluminum extrusions look to be a similar design to the high end offerings from Thule and Yakima. Given the style of the instruction manual and the fact that it was made in Sweden I suspect Thule actually manufactured it for Toyota.

It doesn't appear to be sold in the US but I was able to find it online from a few different shops. The folks at ToyotaOriginal in the UK were very helpful and even with international freight the cost was still about 30% cheaper than Thule or Yakima.

The bars add about 5" to the height of the car bringing the total to 67". Still shorter than many SUVs so I don't expect any issues fitting in garages with the cross bars alone. With a low profile cargo box you could even still fit in a US standard 84" garage fully loaded.

 

Are they easy to remove when not needed and put back on when needed?

 

I also know this thread is quite old... but I'm wondering if you (or someone) can tell me the length of the bars on the stock toyota roof rack PZ403-G8610-GA.

I need to know the spacing between the "clamps" because I'm not sure if my kayaks or big-ol'-prospector canoe will fit on this style of roof rack (with the clamps curving up into the bar) or if I need the ol' bar-sticks-out-past-the-doors style.

We just recently sold our 2008 regular prius with 560,000km and got a 2017 v with tech package and 106,000km. Our ol' Sportstrack clamp-on roofrack was ugly, but worked great. We even got three kayaks onto it once - which our friends SUV nor their pickup could manage! (pic as proof https://photos.app.goo.gl/6qCpD6ec2vWUzGmTA) Lol.

Now we just need to find a good roofrack that works for our boats and fits on our "new" v with the panoramic roof windows!
