I own a 2017 Prius Prime Premium and I always thought PP has 121 hp. The other day I was watching a Youtube video by Scotty Kilmer and he was reviewing a 2017 PP. He said its got more than 200 hp with electric motor combined. Now I’m confused. Youtube link as attached.

121hp combined. Larger hybrids have 200+ eg. Camry

I thought he said 134 horse power and over 200 lb ft of torque. His voice is so annoying I am not sure, though. Does the traction battery really cost over $10K? Seems like this was made about 2018 so maybe the price is different now.

You can't simply add up the power from the ICE and the electric motors.
Scotty is simply adding the 99bhp from the ICE and 92bhp from the electric motors together, something which you can't do.
Combined power output is 122bhp and 164Nm of torque according to Toyota.

The limiting factor of the combined power is that when the ICE is at max power the battery alone isn't able to deliver the amount of power needed to get the full output out of the electric motor.

It is a 8.8kWh pack. There was a leak when the Bolt first came out that GM was paying something like $106kWh, but the deal also included buying the motors and other parts from LG. $200 was the accepted average back then. Tesla might have costs down to under a hundred dollars per kWh, but they've been investing a lot into getting there. For plug in batteries, Toyota simply hasn't been.

Best case, the Prius Prime pack is $8,800. It is more likely more, as being air cooled would require more heat tolerant cell chemistries, which increase cost.

In EV mode, from a dead stop- it almost feels like 200hp…………….until about 24mph. Then it dies off. Lol

Oh, I do not know. I've made some surprisingly quick passes around slowpokes doing 45 mph. It jumps to 65 or more before I get past them.

Edit to add: Gotta love how the forum software changes "d u n n o" (without spaces) to "do not know."
