my interior backlight bulbs for the 2 buttons are burned out and I was wondering if anyone knows offhand what the bulb size is before I go tearing into my car

A little bit of a perfectionist? Digging into your car just for those 2 items might end up breaking other things. Maybe address those when you really have to dig into your car for something more significant.

As these cars age, the clips and plastics around that area gets really brittle. Easily can break other things while you're going in there

How old is the car? This is the Gen 2 forum, but the OP's profile says 2010.

But then, in Gen 3, I think those are LEDs and don't burn out.

So assuming it's a Gen 2, this is the power button bulb, and this is the park button bulb.

The last time I replaced those in a Gen 2, I also changed the shift lever backlight, this one (which, for some reason, is sold separately from its little green cap).

I didn't have any trouble with the panels. A rule of mine is to use only the pads of my fingers, no pry tools.

A Gen 2 could be anywhere from 13 to 18 years old now, and also the climate and amount of sun it has seen could be factors.

Oh this is on my gen 2 2009. I’ve had various prii over the years including a 2012 in the stable

yes correct some of the plastic is very brittle that’s why I don’t want to take it apart put it back together and take it part again

on Hondas, they are little tiny bulbs that use flat heads that quarter twist so I figure they are something similar on the Prius

but yes…it does bother me. I fix everything I can on my 09. I’m currently 700 miles shy of the 300k club and I intend to hit 500k miles. So far, I’ve only replaced things with factory or better components. Take care of her and she’ll take care of me

Yep, that's what they look like.

I'm in favor of that approach. Stay on top of easy little things, and the car keeps feeling like something you want to take care of, so you do. Let a few unfixed annoyances accumulate, and that starts to change how you feel about it and approach it, and then that snowballs and before you know it you've got a jalopy.

Based on your links the part numbers are:

    1. Bulb "a": 90010-01061; and
    2. Bulb "b": 90010-01039.

I don't remember which bulb is for the park indicator or for the start button indicator.

They are the SAE industry standard T5 bulbs. They cab readily be replaced with LED ones like these available on Amazon.

Park lamp bulb illuminates ias green. And, the START lamp has two colors: i.) green; and ii.) orange/amber.

How do these T5 bulbs create the correct colors?

My understanding is that the START bulb has two different states when illuminated: a. orange/amber; and b. green. Does anyone whether my understanding that one START bulb creates two different colors is correct?

There's a multicolor LED inside the power button for status indication, but its illumination backlight (illuminates the word "POWER") is not that. It's one of those old-skool standard tiny incandescents (in Gen 2) wearing a green cap.

Does any know how to replace the little bulb that illuminates the word power? Is it as simple as removing the button cover or do you need to dismantle the power switch (eeek!)

No bulb...It's LED's. The buttons seldom fail. They car cheap on eBay.

This is the Gen 2 forum, and in Gen 2, the illumination backlight for the power button is an incandescent bulb ... as covered back in post #3, which linked to its part number.

It isn't hard to replace. As you see in the picture, it's just in a little twist-out on the bottom of the power button housing.
