    Hello,

I bought a used 2006 Prius a little over a year ago at 140k miles I’ve put roughly 50k miles on it and has driven great up until recently. I was using my car for road trips/delivery work so I drive it a lot. About 3-4 months ago my check engine lights came on and autozone code reader told me it was a water pump that needed to be replaced so I got it replaced. Last month I just had it die on me in the middle of a delivery job so I got it towed to the nearest Toyota dealership and they told me it was the water pump again so I got it replaced again. I’m pretty dumb when it comes to cars so I think they scammed me cause after a few weeks my car had started acting up again. Now every time I want to use it I have to jump start it. As soon as I turn it off everything goes black with no lights on. Even after I jump start it, everything is still all black on the dashboard. Could it possibly be the 12v battery? I’m not buying a 3rd water pump just to have the same issues. I’m tired of having to jump it every single time and driving with fear of my car dying in the middle of the road again. I’ve spent over 4K on this car and don’t want to put anymore money into it. I love this car when it’s working properly and would love to keep it. How much is the car worth in this condition? Should I just give it up? I haven’t had any mechanical issues with this car at all just electrical issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could be that the first water pump was an aftermarket PoS. Who did the work? If it was Toyota it should have been under warranty. Doubtful the second time that the Toyota dealer put in anything other than OEM, so the current problem may just be your 12v battery is dead. Have you checked it?

    Welcome to PriusChat!!
Have you considered that it could be a bad combination meter?

Lifetime warranty here : Prius Speedometer Replacement

Or a DIY fix, if you're into that sort of thing.
