Brake Pad & Rotor Upgrade

    That's good that you have experience on different cars and I respect that, but have you experienced having upgraded rotors and pads on a car, specifically on a prius? If so please let me know how that went. So far the people that upgraded their pads were happy.
    Remember experience with different cars is one thing, but having experience on a specific car is another. (That's why prius chat was made) Same reason why I don't bring my prius to any mechanic despite their years experience, I only bring it to a shop that specializes on prius because I know that from their own experience they can recommend better parts than other mechanics.

    They work great. After 20k miles there was a slight discoloration / burn on the rotor, but it buffed out easy with some 100 grit paper. Pads are still almost like new. I'll be triple checking my slide pins this spring, since I think they were the cause of my having to change the OEM at 36k.

    Nearly 1/2 the price of OEM pads rotors shims and clips. Dealer quoted $400 / non OEM (value parts).
    Than there were the slide pins and that's anyones guess how that would have turned out.

    I said nothing about "brake fade" except the comment about driving in the mountains.

    IF.....your present brakes are good enough so that you can lock up the wheels and activate the ABS on a "panic stop", then there is no practical point in thinking that you can "increase the stopping power" because it will just be a waste of money.

    That is a simple fact.

    I have better things to do with my money than throwing away perfectly good parts just to get "racing parts" for use mostly on the public roads. If the pads and rotors really are worn out........then that's a different story.

    hahahaha, the point was never about brake fade, the point was you saying better brakes will just lock up the wheels, and I said not true mine haven't.
    We are different though, my car isn't "mostly on the public roads" and clearly, we are different types of drivers... I don't think you were out at the rubidoux or terminal island races many moons ago.

    You seem like the type of person that promotes OEM parts are best and everything else is "placebo". Obviously, this thread is not meant for you. I have nothing against on what you believe, but you cant be stopping by threads and saying that what were doing is a waste of money just because you never tried it and that you dont want to be open minded on different parts and options. There's people out there doing things to help improve the drive quality of their Prius BASED on what their normal driving circumstances are. You should know that based on your 60 years of experience lol.
    Honest advice: Just like what black_jmyntrn said, "you should be experienced in the use of something before giving your opinion"

    Also, no one can prove your 60 years of experience because you hide your account from everyone. This just makes you look like a spam account lol or maybe got blocked before from being Toxic lol, who knows.

    Update: installed rear pads and front rotors. For some reason my hawk pads does not fit on my front brakes. Currently contacting seller to fix it. 20220220_202620.jpg

    Do you mean that you pushed the caliper cylinder back all the way and the caliper holder with pads installed don't fit over the rotors?

    Well, if this is the pads you purchased:

    Hawk Performance HB596F.690 HPS High Performance Street Brake Pad


    There is a review from someone who tried to mount them on a Lexus CT200H OEM rotors and couldn't get them over the rotors either, without shaving the pads down and removing the backing plates/shims.

    Seems like they are too thick for your application.

    Would they fit if you removed the backing plates/shims? You could add them back later after the pads wear down some.

    i removed the back plate and im able to close the caliper but the rotors doesn't spin freely. theres a lot of resistance due to the pad being thick.

    Update: I left the fronts with my old ceramic Break pads (pads for the front weren't worn down) paired with the EBC rotors and rear Pads were replaced with Hawk Rear pads. After driving the car for 2 days, the difference that I noticed is that the brakes definitely feel a little more sensitive than stock but I do hear a very slight noise from the rotors when I brake but I believe it's just because it's new. I only hear it on a quiet street/road and when I have my windows down.
