    It cost me roughly 65 dollars to make a (roughly) 925 mile interstate trip last week. With today's prices that would cost me roughly $80. Nothing to get too excited about either way.

    Note: Some gas purchased in California and some in Oregon. Oregon prices are much cheaper. Thus the "rough" estimates.

    I own and run two mobile businesses , one is commercial HVAC I load and carry all my tools, supplies, equipment, inside,on top and towed trailer. Instead of a truck or van.

    I could clear less even gas was $7.00 a gallon.

    The contractors who bought the biggest truck, with the biggest engine, with the biggest tow rated package. In my Business are crying now at 7 miles to the gallon to 9 miles to the gallon lol

    Yeah a pipeline for exporting Canadian oil products overseas makes a big difference on a fungible commodity.

    By your logic As I had noted previously there were approx ~70,000 wells capped during Mr T.
    Our production capacity stagnated during 2020
    Also worth noting much of the country had $4 gas in 2019, see this vintage news article on the subject of 2019’s raising gas prices

    A lot of people weren't aware that gasoline was underpriced as producers were oversupplying in their attempt to bankrupt frackers by driving the price down and it appears the tactic worked and funded two wars on the Arabian peninsula.

    Only good thing about high gas prices is that it funds domestic drilling and fuel economy technology, could even see sulphur free NG made diesel or some other new products hit the market

    I think it’s you that need to re-read, the President doesn’t control fuel prices, but wars, Reagan’s failed oil market and long term trends can negatively affect prices.

    We must remember during Trump there was a massive Alaskan oil rights auction and nearly no one even showed up to bid, most of the rights went unbid and unsold. Perhaps your tired narrative is faulty and it’s more complex than a pipeline no one was using?

    It doesn't matter if it's a small business or large business, the price of gas will have an impact on the consumers they are servicing. A business owner cannot sink the cost of rising fuel costs forever when the percentage of increase is as great as we're seeing now. This cost will be reflected in the price of services (and goods for truckers) to the consumers adding to inflation. There is no pretty picture to show here. Inflation is not just an issue with gas prices and is affecting just about every sector of the economy at this point. And of course, it will get worse.

    I don't think that's a fair assessment at all. The President, through executive actions, can certainly affect oil prices. When enough restrictions are placed on resources like oil and we are no longer energy independent, we see the results as we no longer control pricing worldwide. I think a fair point can be made seeing the results of this starting in Jan 2020. But you are right in one thing... we can't control fuel prices because the current administration voluntarily gave up the ability to do so.

    I don't see where we were ever able to "control pricing worldwide". We can nudge it here and there, but hardly control it. There are too many sources throughout the world, and most of them are not beholding to the USA. Heck, most of them don't like us at all, except as a source of revenue.

    Funny how the different New York papers consistently have a different take on the same issue?

    I never said Biden couldn’t affect prices but Presidential efforts usually have little effect and what affects they do have is slow, limited and at that takes years
    More than likely we are still seeing policies and changes that happened during trump in the past just starting to bear fruit.
    AKA the President can’t create a buck increase overnight out of thin air but a war can because of Ronald Reagan’s chaotic fear driven middle man oil market.

    Believing the gas increases that happened on day 1 when Biden walked in the door AS being due to Biden is as intellectually bankrupt as Mr T thinking the economy became great when he walked in the door.

    anyone who is driving a gas hog any thought gas prices would never rise is living in a fantasy world.

    Gas is skyrocketing and the price of the PRIUS & other Economy cars is also going up.
    I just saw in the news that gas will go up to over $5 & as high as $7 nationwide in the next few months.

    There was talk of that happening circa 2007/2008 and predictions of a never ending price spiral, we all know how that worked out.

    Possible but more likely we will just have some wicked deflation and failures as we but up against limits.


    I resemble that remark, thankfully my Dodge Ram v8 clubcab only drives 900 miles a year hauling trailer loads of biosmass to be made into wood chips so high costs sting a little less when that goes out for wood pellets.

    Probably put my 81 Comutacar back on road this year, lithium is becoming common, cheap and reliable.

    Volt is providing a great alternative to high gas prices as well

    But we can control how much fuel we use by the purchase of vehicles we choose that is a individual‘s choice whether they want the 9 to 12 gallon per mile gas guzzler or the 40 to 60 mile to gallon economy car

    It is a choice to physically install your own solar system at 1/5 to 1/4 fraction of price to have somebody else install it and have a electric vehicle charged off your own solar system and your own battery this is a personal choice to help get yourself 100% off you’ll like my wife did with her Tesla.

    And I’m waiting for Toyota to come out with 100% electric vehicle so I can Connect to my solar grid and battery pack to charge my vehicle at night without being tied to the power grid

    Just like if a person is smart and capable and knows how to play with gas having a propane or natural gas vehicle you still have to pay Road taxes on every pound of LP gas.

    But a science chemistry and knowing the gas laws and being self-educated you can tap into your home natural gas supply line from your PG&E power company and it’s very easy to compress and filter dry and remove the sulfur barium compound out of your house gas compress it to a liquid very safe and easily it’s child’s play and you get untaxed LP gas for your LP vehicle

    we all can do a little bit so we’re not like sheep led to the slaughter house or lemmings following our leader off the edge of a cliff.

    The US federal government can affect the price of gas a little through policy and rules affecting domestic production and allowed import sources, but the main factors which set those prices are: global (world) demand, domestic supply, US/local taxes, and speculation. Put simply, if the world economy booms and everybody is making and moving objects and people demand goes up all over the planet, oil is fungible, and so the price rises for everybody. (In some exceptional circumstances domestic demand may rise faster than global demand, but in my experience US demand tends to track pretty closely with world demand.) The amount of gas available locally then sets the market price, and this in turn depends upon how many refineries are operating and is extremely sensitive to certain external events, like hurricanes, fires, and lately, hackers. So a busted pipeline in the southeast will raise prices there, but the effect peters out the farther away from the problem one goes. On top of the market price are whatever taxes the various levels of government have chosen to levy. Finally there is market speculation. Has the war in Ukraine affected any movement of petroleum into or out of the US yet? Of course not, the huge price rise we see now is the result of market speculation. (Also I feel a bit of cheating by the producers/distributors - whatever the price of oil will become as this plays out that isn't what they paid for the petroleum derivatives currently sitting in a tank under your local gas station, yet the gas prices reflect this speculation almost immediately.)

    Anyway, the only thing more overstated than government's "fault" for some bad economic situation is the credit office holders take for a good economic outcome. It doesn't matter which President it is, but if the economy goes up (generally only jobs and GDP are considered) in their first two years in office they will claim that it is the outcome of their policies, even though the levers they have to make such changes, mostly fiscal policy and fiddling with the tax code, act slowly, have limited effect, and may not have even been put in place yet! Consider the Reagan adminstration's handling of high inflation by raising interest rates. That was a relatively "simple" situation (as if any economic situation ever really is) and it took a full two years to reduce inflation back to an acceptable level. But not so fast, Reagan didn't take office until February 1981, but the inflation rate had been falling for a year when he took office, and if you examine the data, it is hard to even see a change in the slope of the curve when he took office.

    I thought you wanted domestic production, to be energy independent. But Keystone, both the existing already-operating phases and the canceled 4th phase, is for imported oil from a foreign country.
