Need Genuine Toyota Part number for Cabin Air filter

After a search for "part number cabin air filter" yielded no results, I spent HOURS reading the various threads here about cabin air filtes, where to get them, what alternatives to use, where to notch the alternatives with a dremel, what the difference is between HEPA and allergen control, how many pleats expand the surface area, whether to change the entire frame or just the filter media, the virtues of Mircon Airs TY00145P, etc etc etc. I've even printed out the 10 page, well illustrated instruction guide from John's website that details how to change this filter, complete with photographs. And I read the sticky thread too.

In all this reading, NOT ONCE did I find that the factory part number to the Genuine Toyota Prius Cabin Air filter was mentioned. I found the Toyota part number to two viable versions of the oil filter, and even the engine filter, but not the cabin air filter.

Now, I may have missed it, but at this point I'm going INSANE! I have to work, and I don't have any more time to read.

I'd just like to know the genuine Toyota Part number to this filter (which isn't in my owner's guide either... INSANE I said!), so I can replace it. I can't believe this number has been as difficult for me to find as it has.

My dealer will not give me a part number, only a price (approximately $30.00).

In my research, I've read that there are places where this filter can be obtained less expensively (like metrotpn.com) but not even that website lists the part number.

Would someone kindly either call the white coats to lock me in a padded cell, or simply provide the part number off of the genuine Toyota box that their OEM Cabin Air filter came in?

I would be very appreciative.

Here's what I get at AutoZone.com.

At the bottom is a listing for "Air Filter - Cabin" and it says "glovebox." Until I see it for real, I can only imagine that this is the part.

I've asked questions like this from toyotaparts4u.com, and had good luck getting answers. Disclaimer, I'm not affiliated with them, just a happy customer. YMMV.

That's ridiculous, and the last time I would contact them. Get a new dealer, I say. Sheesh! :D

I know it's ridiculous. That's why I want the specific Toyota part number so that I can find resource that is more reasonable, and yet be assured that I am making an apples to apples comparsion.

Yet, I am increasingly fearing that the actual Toyota part number is a State Secret. I have the aftermarket part numbers from the link to AutoZone posted above (thanks!), I have the Canadian part number (9927tc) from a previous thread in my research, and I have several online toyota dealers who provide prices, but no part numbers.

Even on this thread, I have several helpful and empathetic responses, and many more reads, but still, no Toyota part number.

I swear, when and if the genuine Toyota part number ever is released from the CIA dossier that it appears to be locked up in, I'm going to post a thread in BIG BOLD LETTERS on every forum I can find. This is absolutely crazy, given how easy it is to find the part number to the other filter's in the Prius.

It is easier to find the vin code number to determine what factory in Japan the Prius is made in than to find a regularly scheduled maintenance item part number. Something is very wrong with this picture.

First of all, you don't have your location or year and package number in your member profile. <_<

Sooooo . . . if we are talking about an 04/07 . . .

87139-47010-83

I bought one a few months ago. I keep all car receipts. :D

If we aren't talking 04/07 . . . try looking on the edge of the filter . . . it's there on the 04/07 model.

P.S. The receipt describes it as an "ELEMENT, A"

But you didn't stumble across this, eh?

http://john1701a.com/prius/prius-airconditioner-filter.htm

It illustrates the check/change process, as well as provide the Toyota part number.

As a matter of fact I did run across your VERY helpful document, John, as mentioned above in my first post.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(cbs4 @ Oct 31 2006, 09:29 AM) </div>

The problem was I had already read too many of the other posts, where the big debate about the genuine factory filter couldn't possibly be a HEPA, bla bla bal, and you described the filter you used as HEPA?

Then I entered your part number into the dealership websites for 2006, and NOTHING came up. (Like the trdparts4U Toyota of Dallas website, where PriusChat members directed me to buy a case of oil filters, which I did successfully).

Then I searched your part number on Google, and only 2004 and 2005 models were mentioned, NOTHING about 2006. While I recognize that 04's through 06's look similar, I had no way of knowing if some internal, unseen change might have taken place between the 05 and 06 model. Since it was already well documented that there were some unseen changes, like the Nav screen, the taillights, the effectiveness of the A/C (so I was told) and other things I can't remember, I needed a CONFIRMED part number for this filter for the 2006 model year, as my post subtitle indicated.

Hal lay loo ya!

OMG... treason, treason! The secret's out:

We have confirmation that the Cabin Air Filter for 2004 - 2007 Prii is

87139-47010-83

(although this confirmation comes from folks who have a 2004 and a 2005, I hope it applies to 2006)

Thank you, sufferinwithPriusenvy, and John. It will take me the rest of the day and into the night to calm down, recover my sanity, and catch up on all the work I failed to get down while searching for this stupid little number.

Like you, sufferin, my wife has full time possession of our Prius, a 2006 model year, pkg 8 if it matters, purchased brand new only 10 months ago, but that already has over 33,000 miles on it!

As you can see, I don't really get a chance to see the car, much less open the glove box. I'm sufferin with Prius envy too. And the cabin filter is original... long overdue for a change. I've changed the oil 5 or 6 times already, so I've seen underneath the car more than I've seen inside of it. I've already changed the engine air filter once... and it's now due for it's second change as well.

Thanks again for keeping the white coats away... for the time being.

Oops! I guess I missed that... but it brings us back to addressing your overall need: FINDING INFO

If you can think of a better way to make it easier to find, like perhaps second index organized in a different fashion, just say so. I recently did that with my photos (created the "theme" pages) which turned out a much better strategy without affecting the original index.

Ok, first of all John, I'm giving the white coats that were after me this morning YOUR address, because NO ONE on planet earth has more information, in a more organized fashion, on the daily dealings with their car, regardless of make. What is your total output, some several hundred pages now? If they issued Pulitzer Prizes for specific car logging and factoids, you would win hands down, in both quantity, and more significantly, in QUALITY, of content.

That being said, all I really needed from TOYOTA thank-you-very-much-for-making-me-lose-a-day-of-work Motor Corp is a list in the back of the owner's manual of the renewable parts that are required to maintain this contraption.

Really simple concept. My particulate spewing Ford has this list. My gas guzzling Chevy has this list. Why not the clean green Toyota? But enough ranting. Since Toyota didn't provid the list, it might benefit all Prius Chat members if such a list was made into a sticky at the top of... guess what... the Care and Maintenance Forum.

Not a list filled with BS jabber like I'm boring you with now... but a list with just the facts, like this:

Oil Filters 2004-2007:

Original Equipment:
Toyota Part Number: 90915-10003
Denso Part Number: 115010-5031
Distinguishing Characteristics: Red Silicon Anti-Drainback valve/gasket, recessed holes, multi-tabbed cap

Service Replacement:
Toyota Part Number: 90915-YZZF2
Denso Part Number: BT115010-6410
Distinguishing Characteristics: Black Rubber Anti-Drainback valve/gasket, single piece cap stamping

Alternate Toyota Replacement:
Toyota Part Number: 90915-YZZF1
Denso Part Number: ________________
Distinguishing Characteristics: Slightly longer than F2, same diameter and screw thread fitting

Aftermarket Equivalent Replacement:
Purolator Pure One Part Number: Bla Bla Bla
Mobil One Part Number: Bla Bla Bla
K&N Part Number: Bla Bla BLa
{and each with their distingishing characteristics and cross vendor equivalents}

Aftermarket Replacements that Suck:
Fram Part Number: Bla Bla Bla

And so on and so forth for each regularly scheduled replacement item. There aren't that many. Let's see, there's also the

- SUPER SECRET Cabin Air Filter
- Engine Air Filter
- Windshield Wipers front and reat
- Brake pads

You get the idea.

Such a master list would sure save a lot of wasted threads that have been asked and answered time and time again. It would save needless searching. And it sure would have allowed me to get on with my freakin life today! :)

Personally, I think the Toyota AC filters are a bit of a rip off. There's no magic about air filters.

I bought a small 3M electrostatic AC filter at Target, cut it to size with kitchen shears, and stuck it in the plastic frame. Worked fine, better than the dirty Toyota filter, and saved me $15.

Bosch also makes one and I think I paid $22-25 in Autozone. Just an alternative.

I don't know the part # but the counter people can tell you or there is usually a catalog around the filter aisle.
