Hello this is my first post and thank you for any advice. Yesterday my hybrid battery was replaced I have 96,000 on this car. Purchased a 2 yr warranty from a shop that replaces batteries. My issue ….the day after getting my replacement battery the control panel display doesn’t work nor do the brake lights? I took the car back to the shop and they said they had nothing to do with this not working and checked all the fuses which seemed fine. Is this just a terrible coincidence or could the battery change have something to do with this malfunction? Seems to strange..is there a voltage regulator for the display panel i can check? The battery replacement was $800 and the mechanic has a good reputation on yelp.

    all advice appreciated!

    Welcome.

Replacing the hybrid battery would not affect the combo meter. But CM failures are common on the 2nd generation. However, it seems odd that the brake lights would all fail at the same time as the CM.

Since they just fixed it and you may not have a code reader, I’d take it back to them and ask them to scan it and give you the codes. They have to have a scan tool to be in that business. If they refuse, I’d be suspicious and get it read by a parts store or mechanic.

I have a Bluetooth lemur code reader and no codes came up. I’ll try going by auto part store and see if any changes.

    thanks

I tried the reader at auto parts store no codes come up. 12v battery was checked is good. I disconnected battery to see if a reset may do something nothing happened. I wish all of thus would have happened a day before my battery went bad then i would have gotten rid of the vehicle. I was quoted $1100 to have the control panel replaced and i have to do both brake lights! Ugh. I havent looked in to DYI yet. May just do the brakes and go without the control panel for awhile.

A failed combo meter doesn't throw a code. A new CM is insanely expensive. You can get a used replacement that's been upgraded with a correctly sized capacitor for $150 from https://www.texashybridbatteries.com/prius-combination-meter-repair. That's where we buy the meters we install in the shop where I work part time.

Replacement is a little involved, but not hard. Good video on how to do it is here.

Thank you very much for the information.... I will work on getting the brake lights first the other will have to wait. Fortunately I can still get air conditioning!
