As I was detailing my cute little Prius today, I was listening to this eclectic playlist on my iPod and it made me think: "Wow...why didn't Go-Go music become more popular? I'd like to bring it back!"

Made me start thinking of all the past genres that have disappeared, and some of the bands that went with them. That led me to think of all the bands/artists that I wish were still producing music.

So, I vote for Go-go for a genre I miss. (EU, Rare Essence)

How 'bout you? What genre do you miss, or which artist or band would you bring back?

i'd say the smashing pumpkins, but they've already started on their comeback :D

i enjoyed the grunge movement... minus the grunge smell. wouldn't mind seeing that type make it back, i'm so tired of the crap they play on the radio. ick.

    Ditto.

He died way too young. Give the guy another 40 years to continue to grow musically. No telling what he would have come up with.

    J.S. Bach.

    But Mozart was great also.

Prog (art) Rock and Jethro Tull. They're still touring, havn't really ever stopped, but they've been out of the public consciousness for a while.

Bethoven died too young as well but fortunately Schumann was his posthumous muse. WA was good and an extra 40 years would have been very interesting indeed... Hell. Bring 'em all back. Bach and son's, Handel, Telemann, de Prez, Palestrina, Lasso, the list goes on and on.

I do like Big Band, My mom likes to say that she likes more modern music. That would have been Saturday Night Live.

Stevie Ray Vaughn would be the guy I would like to see on stage.

    YYYYYYYYYUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKK!

Of all musical movements ever, grunge is the one that needs to be obliterated! I hated/HATE grunge! Even now, I still cringe whenever any mucous from pearl jam's Ten album starts to drip from the speakers... All I ever wanted to do in the grunge period was to pull the doc martens off pretentious grunge scumbags and pummel them... Like the fat kid with orange hair, ultra fair complexion, wearing the grunge get up whining about the stone temple pilots in a real nasal voice...

...but to answer the question, I'd LOVE to bring back two eras really:

    1. Glam metal (Motley Crue, Poison, Cinderalla, etc.), and 2. early 80's new wave...

oh yeah, and 3. (and don't tell anyone) cheesy Euro pop. I LOVE ABBA....

I think one of the three genres listed below could be a real winner if one of them HAD to be chosen:

    1. Sing Along With Mitch

    2. Lawrence Welk

    3. Scraping a paper bag of roofing nails across a chalkboard

OK, I'll be serious. My favorite genre is the symphonic piano concerto & no one's writing any new good ones, certainly not in the league of Saint-Saens, Brahms, Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, Ravel, Grieg, Respighi, Dvorak, etc. Danny Elfman, are you listening?

Synth Pop (Yeah, Depeche Mode are still around, but nobody knows why)

On the other hand, Punk should finally die. When I see some kid in a Dead Kennedys T-shirt, I feel like saying, "Nice shirt. Get it from your Dad?"

Blood, Sweat & Tears - I believe the group is still performing live - although it has been a decade since I've seen a CD released. Great combination of blues, jazz-rock and other styles.
