Oil price to rise after elections

That same gas station I was referring to earlier:

Oct 7-Nov 7 = $2.28
Nov 8 = $2.40
Nov 10 = $2.50

A 22 cent increase in 4 days.

I guess now you can add me to that "conspiracy theorists" list.

Maybe this nation has a woefully short attention span after all, though I'd really hate to believe that was true.

 

Gas has gone up 12 cents since Tues. (election day) in our area.

Not to worry. Gas prices will be high again soon enough. Of course, the oil companies are very smart: You don't raise the price from $2 to $4 in one big step: You get it up to $3 for a bit, and then you let it back down to $2.20. At this point $2.20 feels more acceptable than $2 did, because it's no longer the highest it's ever been. Then maybe you push it briefly to $3.50 and then ease off to $2.50.

It's just like a climber on Everest: He has to gradually acclimatize himself to the altitude by climbing high and sleeping low. The oil companies use the same method to acclimatize the public to higher gas prices. By the time they settle in to a base price of $4, we'll have had $5 gas for a short time, and $4 will seem like a relief. Hybrid sales will rise when the price hits $5, but then when it settles back to $4 people will resume buying SUVs again.

But at some point in the near future, people will have to begin deciding between gas and food, and the SUVs will begin to disappear, followed by conventional cars, and finally even the hybrids will disappear, because even at 150 mpg gas will be a luxury for the super-rich.

At some point, EVs will take over and the country will turn black from all the soot from the coal-fired power plants.

The silver lining in this will be the disappearance of racism, as the soot will turn us all black and you won't be able to tell white folks from black folks any more.

 

Wow! The newly elected Democratic House and Senate haven't even had a chance to sit down yet and many are already trying to exlplain why it's not their fault the price of oil is going up. Aren't the Democrats going to save us from greedy price gouging oil companies?

First, the oil companies contribute to the Democrats war chests too. Only they contribute to the Republicans four times as much.

Secondly, why should congress regulate the price of gas at all? Wouldn't that be government interferring in the free market? Isn't that what Democrats are always being accused of? So...why should the Democrats do anything about the price of gas if the Republican Way is the only true way?

In what way it is there fault? (Especially seeing that the price of gas went up on election day before any of the votes were tallied.)

And why should the Democrats save us from the price gouging oil companies? The Republican Platform is less government interference and allowing the free market to set it's own prices. Is that not the "true way"? Or is government regulation and interference OK as long as it's not the Republicans doing it? (So you've got someone to blame while reaping the benefits.)

 

petrol prices have remained pretty flat here for weeks. Prices around town vary a bit. The cheapest I've seen for regular is $2.03 and the highest about $2.18. There definitely hasn't been much movement in the price in the past several weeks.

Exactly!

Both parties are owned by big business, and that includes big oil. The biggest difference between them is that the Democrats expend considerable efford to paint themselves as environmentalists.

If I may be permitted a Yogi Berra-ism: The words that come out of a politicians mouth aren't worth the paper they're printed on. And since most politicians are lawyers by trade, it ain't surprising.

They did a study that said the people won't rebel until gas is over $5 a gallon. So....it will go up to $5 a gallon.

Of course, by the time it gets there, they'll do a new study. The people will be so used to gas over $4 that they'll start to accept higher and higher prices.

I wouldn't mind paying the same as the rest of the World so much if the "extra" was being used for alternative energy research and development. But I object to the extra profits going to the companies that then turn around and suck in my tax dollars for R&D claiming poverty.
