The JBL cassette deck in my 2005 Prius (which I use for my iPod) is suddenly giving really bad audio quality. The left speakers do not work at all with it, and the right speakers are very quiet and full of static. The 6 CD changer and radio still work perfectly though.

I'm guessing there's some kind of loose connection, but I don't really know where to look once I have the glove compartment removed. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

Wow, I wish someone had replied, because I have this same problem. I use a cassette adaptor to listen to my phone, but now it's all full of static. Can't tell if it's the cassette deck or the adaptor. I don't have any cassettes any more to test with!

Trying to remember if the cassette head moves when the tape changes direction? and what other things used to happen when the head got dirty, etc.
Might want to try fiddling with some of the cassette controls ( while the phone is connected ) to see if any of the settings have changed from when the adapter worked - perhaps moving the head out of alignment with the adapter? or the adapter or cassette or both head(s) need cleaning?

Can beg, borrow or steal a music cassette to figure it out. Often your public library will have cassettes to borrow.
Might be a good time to upgrade the car to Bluetooth for audio. Any options for that.
