The car passed inspection and is now back on the road with 49mpg on the first 250 mile run.

321,254 miles and counting again :)

    Things seem OK!

370,000 is a lot, but a head gasket breach isn't the only cause for milky motor oil.

It's still cold in Montana this time of year, and it's not hard to find "mayo" emulsions when the engine hasn't had enough hot run time to boil the moisture out.

If you're seeing it after a long hot highway run, it isn't good news.

keep your eye on it by changing the oil every 2 or 3k miles to check it. If no dtc s and oil doesn't muddy up again, wipe the sweat off your brow and give thanks.

Hmm, Only been doing 1 mile to work and 1 mile home per day!.

After all the work put into the car I might get a fresh motor for it.
Thing is it still runs great and don't seem to be using any coolant. No codes as yet, not that an early head gasket failure would typically show that many.

It was grumpy on start a few times when -35C (that's really cold in F)

Yeah work a good 25-minute highway trip into your diet somewhere and your oil will be clarified properly. So far this does not sound like a head gasket failure.

I would agree that if (when) you do find a significant engine problem, just replace the entire unit.

Checked the oil cap yesterday after cleaning it a few months ago and it's completely dry of any oil or milky gunk.

So it looks like cold short trips was it and no major damage like head gasket.
    Coolant was still full.
I've not done many miles as I was choosing to leave it fearing the worst.
Now I have a front click noise that sounds like a dive shaft. RHS.
