I have been exposed to select an ethanol stations since 2001ish and am surprised e15 is considered illegal in some parts of the country

Biden: EPA to issue emergency waiver allowing summer E15 sales | EthanolProducer.com

Biden is pushing to authorize nationwide, this measure (in the past) was strongly supported by grain belt conservatives, let’s see if they forget about that.

I save 30-60 cents a gallon on e15 vrs local e10 at specific gas stations 12 miles north, if I time my fueling with my occasional trips there it actually saves some $$$$

That is what I thought but some in the oil industry seem to disagree and tell me it’s illegal

I thought anything more than 10% was bad for most engines? And as we all know, more ethanol = less energy and lower MPG.

What people don't like is the forced mandate to put it in all the cars. Some old cars do not do well with e15, I am not sure if any newer ones have a problem. When oil is cheap even e10 makes driving more expensive, and in many circumstances e15 will be more expensive per mile and produce both more harmful pollution and ghg. Many want an open fuel standard that allows companies and consumers to decide, but but the ethanol and oil lobbies don't like this.

It makes many summer blends much more expensive if evaporative emissions for old cars are considered. The emergency authorization removes this limitation even if it causes more pollution or harm to older cars.

If anyone knows which cars and how many will not work properely with e15, please post.

So sick of this dishonest corruption from top soil murdering corn lobby. Especially now that we know their entire argument that adding ethanol makes gas burn cleaner is a total lie:

"...ethanol is likely at least 24% more carbon-intensive than gasoline due to emissions resulting from land use changes to grow corn, along with processing and combustion." U.S. corn-based ethanol worse for the climate than gasoline, study finds | Reuters

What's more auto manufactures were successful in the past at shutting down going above 10% ethanol at the pumps because ethanol creates laminates that build up inside the engine. Also ethanol absorbs water, which is why most people's lawnmowers have to be serviced every spring because water builds up in the carburetor.

So sick of these dishonest criminals who think campaign donations to elected officials is all it takes to further their criminal operation.

The question is more if it is bad for fuel lines and pollution controls. Most engines are fine if they have fuel sensors and fuel injection - which IIRC is US cars produced after 2001 regulations. Cars produced in 2007 and later had fuel lines made to handle e15. Still many pre 2007 cars are on the road. Older cars and motorcycles and lawnmowers are likely not included in that group. AAA seems to think even some 2007 vehicles and later will have problems.
    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2012/11/30/aaa-e15-gas-harm-cars/1735793/

ethanol has 70% of the energy as gasoline, methanol 50%. E15 would have would go 95.5% as far as E0 or 98.5% as far as the E10 most of us use.

Once again, it's just a "politics" Jedi mind f**k.

One reason and one reason only for authorizing the E15, as stated, is to reduce the price of a gallon of gas to "help" the consumer......

    right......help is an interesting word..

I'll save you a few cents per gallon with this emergency authorization, and hopefully no one will notice they actually end up buying more gallons, lol....

It's all about the vote. Maybe we can just go to straight water and everyone saves a ton of money on gas!!

Only in some areas. Sheetz stations in the South have it. I've used it in the 2016 Camry, since it was cheaper than regular E10, and it appeared to be cheaper per mile. Not being available in Pennsylvania, I couldn't regularly test fuel efficiency and costs with it.

The Camry gas cap said staying below E20 was fine. The 2022 Outback manual states E15 is safe for the 2.4L turbo, but only E10 in the 2.5L.

I heard that the Tesla Superchargers are going to double their ethanol percentage!

Seriously, fewer ag exports from the war zone and we are thinking of growing more corn to burn???

This is a good line to use redundantly in many different type of conversations. :)

My owner's manual states "Toyota allows the use of oxygenate blended gasoline where the oxygenate content is up to 10% ethanol or 15% MTEE." That means no E15.

Which is expected with a 2011 car. The government has been encouraging the auto makers to have their cars use E15. A 2022 that says no to E15 is surprising.

Does anyone remember the E30 and E50 gas stations in California in early 2000's after the peak of record highs for barrels of oil? What happened to that criminal racket?

We had E85 that I tested with our Prius. Energy was low and the ECU complained but it ran up an 8% grade like nobody’s business.
