    Hello;
    My Gen3 2010 Prius rearmost heatshield (one around exhaust pipe by gas tank) has been rattling and almost fell off. I took it off for now. Here's some pics

    Two of the three holes got so large the shield fell off past the bolt/washers. The third hole as you can see is mostly gone-part of the shield is still under the bolt/washer. Toyota stealership wants $180 for new shield. I was thinking of using some of that high temp jbweld epoxy stuff and some big washers and -re-mold new holes into the shield by using the jbweld as a paste with the washers on each side of where the holes were. Has anyone attempted this kind of repair? Looking for all good ideas or workable solutions.
    Thanks!

    Steel pipe-hanger strapping or literal baling wire. Don't bother trying to make the holes smaller, it's a fool's errand.

    With the steel tape you can wrap it around the shield and its pipe, then attach the tape to itself with simple nut & bolt fasteners. With baling wire it's even easier, you just twist it together to make joins at any length.

    Find a wrecking yard where you can remove replacement shielding for cheap... Or get a friend who welds aluminum to help you...

    I made these parts out of thin stainless steel. This should last forever 20220406_133455.jpeg 20220406_133509.jpeg 20220406_133514.jpeg

    Very nice I believe Carr and others have a similar fastner. Haven't arrived here yet i'm wondering if my exhaust guy can hand hammer out a real metal piece like of course earlier corollas etc. He will say just loose it Tom.. no need it that one.

    Thanks for the idea. What is this steel pipe tape you are referring to? Is it something like this?

    Look for "fender washers", washers with oversized OD. Or use a small piece of gauge plate with a hole drilled through. Or even a short piece of pipe hanger strap, this stuff:

    Mine did the same thing about a year ago; I heard it rattling as I was pulling out of the O'hare parking garage and about to drive two hours home. When I got home, I pulled it off and didn't bother replacing it.
