I bought my 2017 Prius 2 new in Feb 2017. Since then I have put 175k miles on it, mainly highway though!
This past Friday my coolant light came on but it only flashed for maybe 10 seconds and ONLY did it when I went up hills. I stopped and added coolant at a gas station but within 60 seconds it was empty. Refilled it again and it was empty once again... So the next morning I had it towed to Toyota where they found my coolant had been leaking into my exhaust system and the whole thing needed replaced.
There was a TSB put out on it BUT I am now past the warranty so I had to pay $1700 out of pocket!! I did call the Toyota advocate line and asked if there was anyway Toyota would reimburse be for the repair, even just half considering there had been a TSB put out but no nationwide recall yet. Has anyone had any luck with getting reimbursed at all for a big issue like this that had a TSB issued? The advocate guy says he has to do research and would get back to me Thursday...

Same thing happened to me a few months ago at 190,000 miles on my 2017 Four. Coolant leaking somewhere in the catalytic converter, which was replaced - $2100. Did not try to get reimbursed. Yes, expensive repair, but my five years of ownership so far has been waaaay cheaper than any other car I've owned.

Sorry to hear this and I hope you get some joy out of Toyota regarding a refund. I’m at 102k (literally just out of UK warranty) and having issues. Was your coolant literally empty? Did it leak out suddenly or was it a gradual thing? Mine is slowly draining after a recent breakdown 2016 - complete power loss / breakdown | PriusChat

I think mine was a leak over some weeks. I had the car serviced at the dealer 6 weeks before and they didn't say anything about low coolant. I was not in the habit of periodically checking it. But in the few weeks prior, I could sometimes hear water gurgling 'somewhere'. But no warning, and car was acting completely normal. When I the dash light came up and I realized there was a problem, the coolant was empty, I was 900 miles from home, and in Ohio where I was, it was sub-freezing and a winter storm. So I just opted to have them fix it immediately* rather than fill the coolant, go on my way, and watch/wait. It would be nice if the car would give you a warning when the tank is like half empty or 25% full, etc.

*immediately = wait 2 days for them to get the catalytic converter from 300 miles away because there is a severe shortage of this part in the USA.
